Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Gas point in Alfresco 21Jul 16, 2010 8:32 am Just to put it into perspective for people, depending on how far the copper pipe needs to travel from the original point, the copper tubing may be a major part of the cost. Copper now sells at about $10-15 a metre for gas grade piping, although I've heard Bunnings can get down to $5 a metre for the thinner stuff. If you have to wrap it around the house (as opposed to under it when we didn't have slabs) you could use up a fair few metres of it, and therefore be in the $100's fairly quickly. Re: Gas point in Alfresco 22Jul 19, 2010 3:16 pm Im building with M3tr1c0n and we're about to start building. We just added one to our contract for $350. Seems a bit exy but much easier to do now than later I think. Re: Gas point in Alfresco 25Jul 26, 2010 12:41 pm ok, there are 2 ways of fitting the gas point. The cheapest, neatest and easiest is during construction. 110% without question. Estimated cost of this would be $150 - $350. Variables are distance to closest other gas pipe to cut in tee, difficulty in running the pipe. i.e. are you just clipping to a wall or running it under the house with limited crawl space and drilling through steel beams.?? The more expensive, messy and harder way is to do it after construction. We have done some for $250 and some for $850. These prices can vary greatly so whilst someone says $350 is excessive, it may be cheap for their own circumstance. Another factor to consider when fitting an external gas point is that the BBQ attached to it MUST be secured by a chain to a sturcture so as that the appliance cannot be pulled away causing the pipe to fracture. Get the BBQ fitted by a licensed plumber, and get a Certificate of Compliance, always for any gas work to your home. No Certificate, No Insurance.!!! Building Standards; Getting It Right!
