Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 24, 2010 8:46 pm Hi, I need to build a boundary wall around my new home on a corner block. Can anybody advise what kind of costs are associated with a limestone wall versus a redered brick wall. The wall will be approx 45m long x 6' high. Thanks in advance for any tips, tricks or advice. Stressed 'N Confused Re: Boundary wall in WA, Limestone or rendered brick? 2Jun 24, 2010 9:55 pm hi in WA the large limestone block work can actually work out cheaper. Orginally we had planned to have a wall built from the smaller limestone reconstituted blocks as these are cheaper to purchase than the large ones. however if you build using the huge limestone blocks you need less foundation work. The sheer weight of the blocks is enough that a single layer is all that is needed after an initial leveling base. With smaller blocks or bricks you need to allow for 3/4 layers thick of bricks to the base of your wall and a double layer of bricks higher up which can bring the price up in comparison or higher to the cost of the large blocks. Even though the blocks/bricks themselves are far cheaper. Because of the labour cost plus the cost of rendering them it often ends up being more expensive than the large limestone blocks. In our last house we had 2 retaining walls. One a dry stone moss rock and one long brick retaining wall. At the time the brick wall was a cheaper option than limestone walls because we had a neighbour brickie willing to do the job at a good rate. this time round we've found a limestone guy who works for a good price. A boundary wall and a retaining wall are 2 different beasts. Just throw the brickie some cash to do it, I reckon it would be cheaper than a limestone block wall. But why not go and get some quotes? Re: Boundary wall in WA, Limestone or rendered brick? 4Jun 25, 2010 7:14 pm you are right huggyb silly me. I immediately thought retaining wall. If there is no retaining you could do the entire wall in internal bricks and then render it. This would be pretty cheap. Cheers. The painted render is a bit chalky to the touch.
