Now our builders have realised that the direction the joists are running means that the tracks will be visible unless we:
- embed them in a lower ceiling in the stairwell area OR
lower the ceiling across our whole living area - from 2700 to 2630 (i.e. by 7cm).
The stairwell is visible from the living area, and a lower ceiling in that area would be particularly noticeable when you walk in the front door, as it's directly opposite (about 5m away).
I feel very strongly that continuity is important as the space isn't huge and it's all open plan. My partner is set on 2700mm ceilings and is feeling absolutely crushed at the idea of not getting them. (If emotional response is the decider, then I think I'll be giving way on this one!)
We do have several void areas and our ceilings upstairs range from very low to almost 3000mm - we have a curved roof.
So, anyway, quick straw poll: drop the whole ceiling or just the stairwell part of it? If we drop just the stairwell, would just 700mm look odd, and what would be better?
Thanks in anticipation.
