Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 18, 2010 5:39 pm we're trying to decide on bricks for our new house, we have a few different ones we like and are just after some advice on pros/cons of the different types of bricks out there. especially from a brickies perspective of actually dealing with them. Our choices at the moment are: 1. Austral Sandstock - cant remember the colour 2. PGH Summervilla collection - Vanilla or Classic Blend 3. Selkirk Concrete Masonary - Rockface Brick (std brick size) What things do we need to consider? Are there issues with any of these type of bricks? Anything else you think we might like to know. Roof is going to be colourbond "woodland gray" Ta Re: Brick Choice - things we should consider??? 2Jun 18, 2010 6:09 pm Summervilla Vanilla was one of the bricks we considered as well - very nice brick. My main concerns with any brick was were they prone to chipping / was the colour pretty well standard throughout the pallets / did they look good in a large area. I hate looking at bricks in the display yard - wanted to see homes built in them so I could get a proper idea of the way they looked. I was lucky when we finalised our choice there was a large home built close by with a black roof, flush off white mortar and black windows (which we also have) so I could see how it all worked together. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Brick Choice - things we should consider??? 3Jun 19, 2010 2:11 pm Be very becareful on some bricks, I am going through at the moment with problems with the elements range of bricks graphite colour, beautiful looking brick , now we are noticing everywhere the orange behind the colour comming through, and areas where the graphite colour hasnt baked onto the bricks. The representative of the brick company will come out next week to adivse. I have no idea how they are going to fix this one. I dont understand if the bricks facia is of dark colour they should have died the whole brick dark so you would see the orange/red come through. It just doesnt make any sense. The entire batch that was delivered definately was not quality controlled by the brick company. The home took us 1 year with the designer to design we incorporated this brick, with beautiful cladding, to be a modern designer home, now its a total disaster, its absolutely heartbreaking. Re: Brick Choice - things we should consider??? 4Jun 23, 2010 9:59 pm Hi Definitely try to seek out some homes built in the same brick & colour. We changed our mind when we had a look at a recently built home and realised that the light coloured bricks looked pretty dirty. We changed our idea as to the texture, colour and form of the brick.
