Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Has anyone.....? 10Jun 17, 2010 8:50 pm I didn't have picture rails, but i did all the above ways in my house 1 - ripped down old laden plaster in some bits and then put gyprock 2 - put gyprock directly over the old plaster 3 - put wooden batton up and gyrock on that 4 - used the metal ones For 1 - messy and needs a fair bit of muscle. we used a jimmy and reciprocating saw to do a section at a time. my hallway is very very narrow so we thought it was worth the effort because we didn't want to loose the 20mm by adding plaster over the top. lol plus we had started it first and had to finish it. For 2 - I'm not exactly sure how the plaster did this but he fixed it directly over the old walls. For 3 - We battoned one wall (with wood). We have an old brick wall behind the old plaster, so took down the old plaster, put up battons across the brick and studs and then the new plaster had something to fasten to. (like southies pic) 4 - the plasterer used these. I think he mainly used these on the ceiling i think. I also put new plaster over the old plaster on the ceiling. My rooms aren't big so it was ok. I have heard that if you have big rooms that this isn't a good idea because the weight of the ceiling starts getting really heavy. I was thinking you could - baton so the new plaster will clear the picture rail. then you don't have to pull out anything, but you have to put up batons and you will loose a little area of your room - Pull out the picture rails and some of the plaster (not all of it), you could use the reciprocating saw to cut out a section and then plaster over the top. Then i don't think you would need to baton. Hi All, we are starting to think of building with Masterpiece Builders in Victoria, has anyone had any feedback or experience with them 0 13578 Hi we are looking to talk to people who have built with them recently. We have signed mid range built contract but identified that a lot of things are not included.… 0 648 I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 15250 |
