Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 04, 2010 5:11 pm I called a reccomended insurance company for a building and contents insurance quote this afternoon. The first question they asked was what stage the house was at now. This is fairly normal question. Then they asked me what was sill left to go on the house: i told then just floors and finishing touches. After that they saked if the hot water system was in place yet. I said no as it is being installed the day of handover so it doesnt get stolen. The sales person then said they could not give me a quote because there was no hot water yet??????????????? I countered this and said we needed to have the insurance organised to complete handover and if that was the case with the quote I would have less than one day to sort it out and that was not acceptable. It was not one of the big insurance companies but they couldn't even tell me why this was a rule. Has anyone heard about this before? I have not had this anywhere else and thought it was VERY strange! I just got ours organised (through RACV) and had no such problem. We don't have our hot water yet either! You're right, you want to get it organised a little before handover and appliances go in after that normally! Also a good idea to get the insurance at least a couple of days before the house is 'yours' because (well at least with RACV) a lot of items you are not covered for within the first 48 hours of taking out the policy, like bushfires, flood etc. I know it's not likely, but why risk it? Which insurance company was it? Re: Cant give insurance quote because hot water not installe 3Jun 04, 2010 5:22 pm I think its bizarre too! I have got quotes from heaps of other places and the HWS was a non issue! I have sent the company an email for an explanation (not because I want to go with their insurance after that service) but becasue im curious! I think im going with RACV. the complany was Hollards Insurance brokers Lauren and Tony: Building our first home in the Vaucluse estste, Doreen, Melbourne http://laurenandtonyshouse.blogspot.com/ Quote of the Day: "I know what you wanted but I did it this way becausee I thought it would look better" Re: Cant give insurance quote because hot water not installe 4Jun 04, 2010 5:31 pm I know hot water systems tend to get pinched reasonably often, but I still can't see their reasoning RACV is good if you have the car/s with them too. An extra 10% off each car insurance policy is a nice bonus Still, it's exciting you're up to this stage! Getting there Re: Cant give insurance quote because hot water not installe 5Jun 05, 2010 5:11 pm I got an email reply from them today to say they are looking furthur into it (I said in my email that they would lose a lot of business from ew homeowners if they kept this up) and will get back to me next week. I organised everything through RACV this morning. Easy, quick and no questions about HWS!
