Yes. They all get to stay, unless they're accidentally deleted, right Michelle? Earlier in the year Michelle's profile was accidentally deleted along with the spam bot accounts, but her posts were in good hands, and her profile was quickly recreated (and re-linked to all her posts). My bad.

Each record as above contains almost 50 fields of information about each member, including whether they're active, when they joined, to how many posts they've entered and more. In the cleanup process we don't look at the number of posts, but rather we try to determine if they're genuine members by observing the information provided before hitting that much-used DELETE button.

We usually first look at the email address provided, scouring all records for .au's. It's not a requirement of course, but the best delineator to begin with.



Very good thought. Sometimes you'll find odd spam-bot members have a post count of one or two for their posts that slip through. Hence, in the interim, the manual activation process to prevent this from happening to begin with.

Also, there are a lot of "lingerer-pre-posters". Some like to acquaint themselves with the forum for months well before actively posting.

With some experience managing a forum if too many conditions are put in place for potential new members, they weigh in as a deterrent to join.

Nonetheless, I'm all for encouraging members to post an article or two upon activation, which is why the 'Introductions' Forum was established as a good starting point for new members.

Last thing we want is for you guys to feel pressured in your new capacity. If SPAM gets out of hand, we'll look at reverting to manual based activation for a short time.
