If you shower is 100% square and perfect sizing then great. toilets - make sure you know what your getting. It is easy to get a cheap toilet cheap. However I would be making sure I do everything I can to get an expensive toilet cheap. with anything on ebay make sure you compare apples with apples. Re: Buying on eBay 3May 31, 2010 10:07 pm Thanks Borg, confirmed what I thought. Just trying to keep the costs of 3 wall-faced close coupled toilets with soft-close lids to a minimum. Not a lot of price competition where we live so am trying to compare with other areas and look into freight. I think best to source locally for showers. You are still best buying a larger familiar brand name so you can get spare parts later on, which yes, usually means you will pay a bit more upfront. Hi, If possible (can't see your location) you could check Bunnings for a back-to-wall toilet suite called Aurora Como. It sells there for about $330. We have 3 of them and quite like them. They are set up as a 4.5/3 litre flush, which I found does not always quite do the job (no pun), but they can be adjusted up to a 6/3 flush. Cheers Re: Buying on eBay 8Jun 01, 2010 2:46 pm Thanks GeoffW1 and Borg. We do have a Bunnings in Cairns (a bit over an hour away). Will check out what they have up here. I don't know how to put my location up for all to see. Bunnings prices are not too bad but I also found some of the plumbing supply shops in Cairns were priced right too. If ebay purchases are wrong/faulty its a major nightmare. I would buy local Re: Buying on eBay 10Jun 01, 2010 4:42 pm Quote: They do have a shopfront in Sydney, They are called Renovation Design in Bankstown. Anyone heard of them? Three years ago we bought several items off them but we actually went to the factory/shopfront. Of the two tap sets one is still perfect but another is falling apart (the handles keep falling off). This may be due to my OH's workmanship as he installed them but I think it is a reflection on the quality of the tap. As far as we could tell, most of the items are of asian manufacture. We also ordered a set of frameless shower screens. This was not the usual stock size and it cost approximately 50% more. They were certainly quick in producing them and we picked them up. We still have the tear in the back of the 4wd when the glass came through the cardboard as we were transporting them. The packaging was flimsy and I note on the feedback on ebay that this is still an issue. As far as installing the shower screens ourselves this was a nightmare. We did not realise that our walls were slightly out and it took many attempts to erect them. Unfortunately the level of the screens at the top is not exactly matching and one screen is about 1/2 cm. higher than the one next to it. The metal fittings still appear good but the tiny plastic (coloured silver) caps covering the screws have begun to fall off. Would we do it again? No. The price was good but after this we have decided to pay the extra and get better quality. And that includes never trying to erect our own shower screens ever again. I still have RSI in my shoulders from holding up those b***y panes of glass. Re: Buying on eBay 11Jun 01, 2010 7:35 pm Thanks Neverfinished. Sounds like a bit of a nightmare...and you have saved me from going through potentially worse with freighting an issue too. Much appreciated. Dadandsue how is your building going...I got some great priced R3.5 ceiling insulation from Bunnings Smithfield in Cairns... if you haven't done that part yet? When you make it to Cairns, you will need to visit the Tablelands (if you haven't already). It is lovely. And some really great coffee places too. Thanks for the tip about plumbing prices. Might pay to head down for a day of trudging around Cairns with a 1yo...YAY. I was at Smithfield Bunnings today. Very jealous being so close. Went down to check out toilet suites and go to a home show at the showgrounds. Checking out some grid-connect solar systems. When do you think you will make the move from BNE? Are you ready for your first full tropical summer???? When do you think you will make the move from BNE? Are you ready for your first full tropical summer???? I would have loved to get to the Cairns Home Show but I am coming up for the Cairns Show next month (just because and I can see my construction for only the second time) Funny you mention solar - I rang 2 places this week. I think I am going to swallow the $3500 for a 1.5kw system. My house in BNE (are you a pilot too?) goes on the market in 2 weeks. Fairly sure it will sell within a month or so. Builder is talking final handover end of October. Obviously final works is all one tradie at a time and is the most time consuming. I wish I was there now the winter down here can get cold. I figure October-December isn't too bad but I should be ready with my lovely new airconditioning and pool. I am really looking forward to the more laid back life up there. Sadly SEQ has just become an expensive version of MEL or SYD. Raleighfarm have you started a dedicated thread or blog for your build? Re: Buying on eBay 15Jun 05, 2010 7:32 am I would personally not get those items off Ebay for the reasons mentioned above about it being difficult if there is any issues down the track. But that being said when we were in NZ we got some cool toilet seats (One had barbed wire in it, the other had a dolphin scene on it) from an auction site and they worked well and were cheap enough that if we had issues with them it was not going to annoy us too much, but we got quite a bit of use out of them and they were still going strong when we left there. If I was to win Lotto, I would build with a different builder, now to win lotto Re: Buying on eBay 16Jun 05, 2010 11:58 am Have decided not to go anywhere near the afore mentioned items on eBay. thanks for the advice. dadandsue haven't got a dedicated thread...need to get my act together. I have lots of photos. No not a pilot...I am personally a baby-making machine (remember...5 kids). Am a school teacher on very extended leave and huuby works for the government. Place is full of wierdos/pedos thought internet may help but I suppose I'll try my luck with someone in person. Cheers. I tried… 0 6445 |
