Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 28, 2010 12:11 am My partner and I are looking at buying a house, but there is one small (I hope its small) issue that we would like to get our heads around before going in for the kill. The walk in robe in the master bedroom is nothing more than a wall at the back of the room where the walk in robe is meant to be behind the wall. There is no shelving, no rails to hang anything on. I have attached the plan for the bedroom and walk in robe. I am assuming when the house was designed they intended to put shelves etc in, but it never happened, and looking at it my partner and I have no idea how it would or could be done. The seperating wall is a bit closer to the back wall than is indicated in the bedroom plan (the plans were changed, these aren't the final plans). So we need your help! Would love suggestions on what could be done, how it would be done, and any other information or contacts (we are in Perth) would be muchly appreciated. http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm62/mummymeg/Bedroom1.jpg Re: Walk In Robe, not sure what to do, HELP! 2May 28, 2010 12:25 am I rememember seeing these wardrobes in some showhomes once. You can access each side seperately. They were all fitted out for the couple to have their own dressing space each side, with rails, shelves and some drawers. Very easy to get very messy Re: Walk In Robe, not sure what to do, HELP! 3May 28, 2010 1:06 am Thanks. We just have no idea how to set it up with shelving and rails. I wish the builder had it all done, instead of leaving it as a shell. Re: Walk In Robe, not sure what to do, HELP! 4May 28, 2010 6:18 am As it does not seem to have the room to have shelves or hanging rails along back room and in alcove and still be able to walk along it, I would split it into two with a fase wall down the middle. Hanging space would be on either side of this wall. Then some shelves in back corners of rear wall. So his and her each side. As you walk in, shelves directly in front of you, turn and there is the hanging space. Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. A waffle pod slab does not go with maple syrup. The other alternative is to DIY with units from IKEA or storage specialty shops (I have no idea what's in Perth). Some of the wardrobe companies offer DIY options too, lilke this one: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://www.innerspace.com.au/products/walk-in-wardrobes How wide is the space? Assuming your plan is more or less to scale, it doesn't look too bad - it looks as though you'd fit standard shelving/hanging rails along the back wall and have room for some narrower shelving on the short wall - or at least hook-style storage for belts, ties, handbags etc. Re: Walk In Robe, not sure what to do, HELP! 6May 28, 2010 8:37 am This is the same style that we have - a dual entrance wardrobe. This was DH's idea as we changed the original plan and at first I wasn't sure of it, but the idea has grown on me. My plan is attached below. As you can see, we will be supplying our builder with some custom made drawers and then the builder's chippy will attach the hanging rod in between them. We are now having the drawers made to the width of the entrance so it will look even. http://i831.photobucket.com/albums/zz237/nandn02/Home/P4180108.jpg Re: Walk In Robe, not sure what to do, HELP! 7May 28, 2010 9:42 am These companies are Perth based go have a look at their website and make your decision from there. www.completewardrobesupplies.com.au, www.creativebydesign.com.au, www.impalawardrobe.com.au.
