Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 27, 2010 11:56 pm We are doing a reno on an apartment/unit (not sure of the appropriate vernacular; see signature for details) and are about to sign off on the kitchen layout. We plan for it to be a rental unit so I don't have a particular 'vested interest', but given that we are gutting and renovating the entire space, we'd really like to make it as liveable as possible for as long as possible. At the moment we are planning on a 900mm fridge opening. We'd really like to know how this compares with current build kitchens (vs renos)? Please keep in mind that this is a relatively small two-bedroom, one-bathroom unit (ie not likely to be housing a family of 4+). Cheers Re: Decision time - How wide is your fridge cavity? 2May 28, 2010 8:23 am Our fridge space is just under 1 metre, so about 98-99cm. This is plenty of space for our 567 Litre (i think) side by side fridge. We have approx 5cm on each side. Considering it is only a small unit, i doubt there would be a need for a large fridge, so the space you have allowed should be ok. Perhaps have a quick look online (or in a shop) and just find out the average width of a fridge? Re: Decision time - How wide is your fridge cavity? 3May 28, 2010 8:44 am According to our plans ours is 950mm, but by the time you take plaster and skirts into consideration, it ends up being about 900-910mm usable. Ours is only about 600mm or so. We have the side-by-side ice maker/water dispenser. It sticks out a little bit, and doesn't look bad, just I would have rathered that it didn't.
