Browse Forums General Discussion Re: 600mm Porcelain Tiles 4May 24, 2010 6:41 pm Hi there, I have been quoted $55 per sqm for laying 600x600 porcelain tiles but that does not include re-screeding the floor which may be necessary if your slab is uneven. I have ballpark figures (off this forum I think) of about $20 per sqm for application of a levelling compound. They may be able to get away with just the adhesive (at different thicknesses) but it really depends on the quality of the surface. Good luck - I had tiles laid poorly in my last house and it ruined the whole effect for me - make sure you find a tiler you are comfortable with and that is a perfectionist, otherwise it can be money down the drain! I could tell you a price that will leave you depressed when you get quotes, but it's a price you'll never get! Personally for ease of laying (and associated cost because they are a bugger to cut and the wastage is higher), plus the initial up front cost I reckon ceramic is the way to go. Re: 600mm Porcelain Tiles 8May 24, 2010 8:04 pm We import a lot of stuff for work from China so I was going to get onto our import agent man to speak to his tile people. We work in the construction industry so I know of lots of people I can get to lay for a decent cash price. Tiles just make the world of a difference and the entire back of our house is such open space I want it to look shmick Re: 600mm Porcelain Tiles 9May 25, 2010 10:44 am Are they the same shiny tiles that are hard to keep looking clean and shiny, and every mark stands out like the proverbial? Arfur Re: 600mm Porcelain Tiles 11May 25, 2010 1:40 pm We ended up paying $30/sqm for 600mm vitrified porcelain tiles (directly from a warehouse) and will be paying someone (a friend) $35/sqm to lay them. All up it will cost about $6500 for us to do it - which still worked out cheaper than timber floorboards. Re: 600mm Porcelain Tiles 13May 25, 2010 8:10 pm We have just had a quote for $100 per sq m which comes to $11,000 for laying the tiles, this includes screeding the floor area for leveling. I thought that was the going rate so thanks for the info, I had better get some more quotes in. I would rather pay more if need be though to get them laid properly. Cheers. Re: 600mm Porcelain Tiles 14May 25, 2010 8:50 pm Ours was / is $45 through the builder per meter laid....... As they did the slab I don't think we have to pay to get it fixed..... Re: 600mm Porcelain Tiles 18Aug 04, 2010 8:28 am I found a good tiler by asking the staff where I bought the tiles. . 'this guy is excellent' they said, and turns out he was at least very good. He had to do some very difficult cuts on the 600cm porcelain tiles I had, one tile alone took him 1.5 hours to cut. I'm happy even if I did pay around 100 psqm Re: 600mm Porcelain Tiles 20Aug 04, 2010 4:03 pm That was just the laying, it was a bit over 100, I think 17 sqm and he charged about 2000. Never told my bf (chippie) what I paid or he'd still be flipping now.. The tiles were around 110 psqm and that was the lowest they'd go, italian porcelain but don't regret them. . they'd better see me out though, the tiler did say porcelain can last 900 years Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing.
