Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 18, 2010 3:24 pm Hi, I'm 27 and run some artist studio's / creative space in Marrickville. We are setting up a new warehouse and I am after some advice on interior walls. At the current place we are leaving the walls are made with wood frame 75x50 non-structural timber, 12mm std plasterboard + acoustic insulation (it's grey and looks like synthetic wool). We built aprox 50m of 3-4m high wall, floor to ceiling + framed doors. We learned alot and made loads of mistakes! Having never built before... Now we are doing it again I'm after some advice. Everything was sourced as cheap as possible as we work on a very low budget. The questions: 1. Is using steel frame (ie rondo metal) instead of timber cheaper? Not having to deal with warps in cheap timber would be great. Also it would be lighter and easier to work with some what I imagine. 2. Is acoustic plasterboard worth it + how much more expensive is it. We found the 'acoustic' insulation did pretty much nothing and are hoping to improve on the sound isolation between rooms this time. Where in Sydney is the best/cheapest source of plasterboard? Any tips for wall construction to reduce noise transfer? Ideally you would want to make the cavity wider and add more insulation, and in addition to the absorbive insulation, you'd want some deadening material like loaded vinyl. In answer to your questions... 1. Timber I would guess is cheaper, denser and therefore less likely than thin steel frame to transfer noise vibration. 2. Use a plasterboard (double layered) like fyrchek (it is pink) for improved acoustic performance as it is denser. You may find that is sufficient, but you may also want to drape barium loaded vinyl over the studwork before sheeting the platerboard over the top of that. Given that you are in Sydney, give Pyrotek a call - they should be able to help you out. A question. Im in Queensland and building a new home. We managed to reach practical completion 6 weeks ago but we haven't heard any date for handover yet. Who should we… 0 5806 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder. We also had idea of building duplex instead and seeking suggest ions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106744 11 13833 I am looking for someone who might have tackled a similar issue as me. I have a few rendered interior walls, the surface condition is hardly flat. I can see all the bumps… 0 7964 |
