Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 18, 2010 10:56 am Good Morning... We settled on Thursday to find out on the weekend the people next door plan to build a duel occupancy. The front house being 2 story. We have a shared (single) drive way which services 4 blocks. Our issues: 1. The 2 story shades the front of our block and most of our house all day meaning we have a freezing cold house and nothing will grow. We are also across the road from a lake which means the damp will be a problem. 2. This will mean up up 10 if not more cars will be using the single drive way. 3. The houses will face into our house. 4. The council does not allow duel occupancy on a block this narrow and they have asked for a special acception because of the drive way situation. 5. We already have duel occupancy the other side (4 houses) Do we have grounds for appeal? Any advice on how we go about it? We are waiting for a call back from the council (Wollongong). HELP! 2May 18, 2010 11:00 am B-Arty, you have already answered part of your own question when you state: "The council does not allow dual occupancy on a block this narrow." Also shadow lines will come into play and if the proposed dwelling is going to ffully shade most of your house, then yes, you have the right to object. Fight it all the way if you have to as it appears that you had no knowledge of this possibility prior to purchasing your block. Good luck and let us know how it ends!!
