Browse Forums General Discussion 1 May 17, 2010 2:31 pm We are moving into our new house in a couple of weeks and it will take DH at least 1/2 hour more to drive to and from work every day. He drived a big holden sedan and we are trying to decide if converting it to gas will be worthwhile. It will save us $$ but as our bigger car (and plans for kids in the very ner future) im concerned that losing most of the boot space will become an issue. What do you think is the best option? or if you have had a similar iss what have you done? Space 4May 17, 2010 4:09 pm Prams need a lot of space - unless you choose an umbrella stroller (which you wouldn't use with a newborn, more for a toddler) so the gas cylinder would use up nearly all the space in your boot. Me personally would say no - but I have 3 kids under 4 so we need a big family car (three carseats plus a hefty stroller which fits all three). Then there is all the other paraphanalia which comes with kids - nappy bags, more shopping bags etc. Could he buy a smaller car to use daily and you use the larger car (that is if you drive less). Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Convert DH's car to gas or not? $$ Vs. I drive a mazda 3 (which I LOVE! and i drive about the same distance to work so its not worth it to have 2 small cars, but i dont also want 2 large cars) we have talked about swapping when we have kids but I HATE driving his car. Im tempted to trade in both cars and get a larger one I feel comfortable with and a smaller one for DH Lauren and Tony: Building our first home in the Vaucluse estste, Doreen, Melbourne http://laurenandtonyshouse.blogspot.com/ Quote of the Day: "I know what you wanted but I did it this way becausee I thought it would look better" Re: Convert DH's car to gas or not? $$ Vs. To recoup the costs of gas conversion is hundreds of thousands of kilometres - financially it doesn't stack up unless you keep your car for a looooooooong time. Re: Convert DH's car to gas or not? $$ Vs. Space 7May 17, 2010 5:49 pm LPG is for cooking.....eg. bbq ........ leave the car alone and it does have extra maintenance on top compared to a petrol engine and has great failure and expences if not maintained correctly ...... The only way its cheaper is if you bought a dedicated LPG vehicle from the manufacturer ...... i been in the trade for last 9 years its only my 2cents ..... Re: Convert DH's car to gas or not? $$ Vs. Space 8May 17, 2010 6:07 pm thanks for the input. i think we have decided to leave it. mumhas offered to sell us her (much nicer) car next year when the lease runs out so might do that instead. And I never thought I would Last month we bought a diesel Mercedes ML 320CDI. In the first two weeks I did 500klms and only used half a tank of fuel. DH has been super impressed with the running costs and performance.
