Re: laundry via kitchen? 22May 08, 2010 11:45 pm mummagoose The custom design floor plan thread has got me thinking ..... Who has a laundry that you enter via the kitchen? And is it a pain or is it OK? The original floorplan for our house had the laundry entrance straight off the kitchen and we hated it - mainly because to get to the laundry from the bedrooms, you had to come downstairs, walk past the study, through the family room, through the kitchen, and days later you made it to the laundry. We redesigned it so you can walk into the laundry straight from the stairs, saving hours on walking time Hopefully spend as little time in there as possible! Much prefer it this way as I hated the laundry near the bedrooms when you're trying to sleep! I also agree with Helyn about kitchens being used as a thoroughfare to get to the laundry. Not a big fan and have noticed that it is becoming quite common in new plans. Maybe it's because I seem to be the only one going to and from the laundry and most of the time I am in the kitchen? Until this thread I never reall thought about it. It sort of seemed the logical place to put it and the clotheline is directly outside the door.. In our old house I didn't even have a Laundry so maybe I am just appreciating having one at all! www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: laundry via kitchen? 25May 09, 2010 6:47 pm themax I have to sy that this hasn't bothered me at all. I had a friend who lived in an older house with the same setup. Did her head in with her kids constantly going through the kitchen to put their washing in the laundry. I guess it depends on whether it would bother you or not but it is something to consider about when looking at plans. If you have the laundry coming off the kitchen and there is only one entrance to the kitchen it is much more annoying(and dangerous) than if the kitchen has an island bench with access at either end.
