Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 30, 2010 9:14 am Does everyone prefer to NOT have the bedhead directly under the window or do people not care? I am trying to work out where to put the built in robe, and a big window in the middle of one of the walls is making things difficult... Is it ok to have a bed directly under the window? Re: Bedroom arrangements - would you have a bed under window 2Apr 30, 2010 9:22 am If the window was high and long I wouldn't hesitate, in your case I personally wouldn't like it. Do you have a bedhead? Will it go cover the window at all? but if you have no choice...... Re: Bedroom arrangements - would you have a bed under window 3Apr 30, 2010 9:26 am We have this problem too. As mentioned above go for a long shallow window high on the wall if you can, that's what we're doing, but the window faces the backyard so no major problem. Probably wouldnt do it, if it was a feature window at the front of the house. Maybe some tall skinny windows either side of the bed ? Re: Bedroom arrangements - would you have a bed under window 4Apr 30, 2010 10:02 am We've had a bedroom with a high window over the bed which I loved, I used to wake up and watch the gum trees in the breeze. We've also had a bedroom with a big window behind the bedhead, I didn't feel comfortable at all in that room. I defintely would have filled that window in given the opportunity. When I was a kid I always had my bed sideways along the wall with the window over it, that was fine. So i have mine to the side of the window, kinda in the middle. It can look nice though if you have a high window or two skinny ones on either side? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Re: Bedroom arrangements - would you have a bed under window 7Apr 30, 2010 3:03 pm We have a high, long window about our bed which we really like. There is a large 'normal' window on another wall. I would avoid a big window above the bed if possible, bed heads can be different heights, and make window dressings awkward. I would only do it if the window was fairly high on the wall, that's me, I don't like beds under big windows either. Jodie, you're really helping..... Re: Bedroom arrangements - would you have a bed under window 10May 01, 2010 11:09 pm I don't like 'em. If you have the window open, you get the breeze on your face, which could be nice but...meh. Mainly, I don't like it for 2 reasons though. 1. Unless you have some kind of sealing blind or curtain arrangement, you'd be blinded by the sun in the morning 2. If it's your only window, you don't get any view when ****** in bed. Cause it's behind you. Oh, and it can also look messy, having a bed stuck up against a windowed-wall. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Bedroom arrangements - would you have a bed under window 11May 01, 2010 11:16 pm I agree with GS above, especially in relation to the sun. It'll peep through curtains. Plus it can be colder and noiser if it's a large window. Not my preference. Re: Bedroom arrangements - would you have a bed under window 12May 02, 2010 2:06 am yes, we have a high long window above our master bed, it was really the only wall we could have it on, but it gets no sun due to the aspect of the window, so that may influence you. We really like it, we have only a sheer curtain on it, never open or shut because there is no privacy issues. We rarely open the window and that suits us fine! Would I do it if I didn't have to, probably not, but it is very common... A thankful person is a happy person. Prefer to have my bed on its own wall... No windows allowed. I did think initially like the others high long would be ok. Re: Bedroom arrangements - would you have a bed under window 14May 03, 2010 10:30 am I agree with having bed on its own wall. Having the bed next to a large window lets a hell of a lot of temperature through, making you extra cold in winter and then not getting a good sleep in in summer when the sun heats the window up. With double glazing, it would be less of an issue but still an issue. Plus if bed is away from the window, then does not impact curtains, blinds, etc. Final point. I did have bed under a window as a kid and just stuck a note to window saying 'Dear vampires, in case you were not aware, I have not invited you in so you can't eat me. Suck garlic!' and so was nice and safe... til I left the house. Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. A waffle pod slab does not go with maple syrup. Across from the alfresco area was a house where someone's bed was near their bedroom window. Seems they were not aware that the blinds were open or something. And they were apparently having a real party on & off all night! My mate even went out to the car and came back with his binoculars. All at the restaurant very much enjoyed the free entertainment! Re: Bedroom arrangements - would you have a bed under window 16May 03, 2010 11:18 am i just moved into an apartment and our bedroom is a corner with floor to ceiling windows on 2 walls, i actually opted for the bed in the corner of the 2 windows, the only real issue is that the blinds can get a little annoying. But its awesome to be able to tilt the blinds and look out over the bay from the warmth of the bed. Re: Bedroom arrangements - would you have a bed under window 17May 03, 2010 11:34 am I'm another that likes the bed on their own wall..except under highlight windows. IF they are high enough, I think a bed underneath can look really lovely...actually looking at my house plans that's how one of the bedrooms is going to be.
