Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 28, 2010 10:19 am HI we are going to be knocking down a load bearing wall between kitchen and dining room ( brick veneer house) Hoping someone can advise how much we will be looking at? I believe we will need a structural engineer to ok and submit plans to council Would love and info if anyone has been through a similar process Thanks Candi ************* First time renovator VIC Re: Costs for load bearing wall to be removed ??? 2Apr 28, 2010 10:35 am It's really hard to say because it will depend on what measures you need to take to replace the load bearing function. If you are not spanning a aide gap and can get by with a lintel from one existing side to another it should not be too expensive. We had to span an 8 metre gap which meant steel lintel attached at either end to steel supports going down to foundations (over $15,000). Re: Costs for load bearing wall to be removed ??? 3Apr 28, 2010 10:40 am Ouch !!!! this wall is less than 3 m long and from the plans ( im hopeless at reading them ) it looks like roof frame rests on it so I was thinking we would need to put some trusses in teh roof - if that is right term Anyway thanks for your reply Candi ************* First time renovator VIC Any structural alteration to your home requires building permit. Before you get it you will have to supply plans with structural assessment, you will also be removing… 2 4096 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5143 |
