Imitation Tile and Weatherboard - urgent reply needed

Hi all - hopeless here again

I am just wondering if anyone knows anything about the two items mentioned in the subject line?

We are looking at a house that we have fallen in love with (well the interior at least anyways) and it has imitation weatherboards and imitation tile on the roof.

Any pro's / Con's / concerns etc about these products that we should know about? We are going in to have another inspection today - and possibly make an offer so a quick reply would be ever so helpful!!!

I've googled but am not finding much on either product.

Do you mean vinyl cladding? I think you will get more responses if you google that. My step-father had it put on when it was very popular in the late 80s/early 90s. I think the advantage was meant to be that it didn't need painting. I don't know how long it is guaranteed for and what it looks like after a period of time. It looked ok when it was done.
No idea about imitation tiles though - never heard of them.

Actually I just looked up vinyl roof tiles. Maybe you can check out this site. It might be similar to what you are looking at.

Umm - the agent stated specifically that it was imitation weather board and imitation tile - I haven't asked him about that so I'm not sure if he means its some kind of cladding. It could be quite possible that it was done around that time (suits the era) and the other houses around it and some of the brick work at the back is more of that 50's stile pointy brick stuff? if you know what I mean

Will keep looking in to it !!!

and 80 era house sounds like plastic coverings - there we also some textured fibre-cement products out around then - either way - If you like the hosue - it has the essential items of good propety investment - then go from there..

I'd call the agent and ask specifically what the wall cladding and roof is made of. Better to know for sure now!
Otherwise, get a building inspection done, they will be able to tell you exactly what its made of and whether its a good material or not.

PS I was in the same situation, fell in love with a little blue cottage, but building inspection showed asbestos walls in the kids bedroom! I was heartbroken...oh well wasn't meant to be!

Thanks everyone - sorry for being so tardy with the reply.

We have placed an offer (which hasn't even go to the owner yet) and there is no point asking the agent - he's a complete half wit (and somehow is the fourth highest seller at his company

We're getting an inspection done this week, whether the offer gets to the owners or not so that should clear things up a bit.

It's a 1958 style house...and we do love it - lots. Not getting our hopes up though...just waiting, waiting

My god you have me rolling on the floor !!!!!!

Unfortunately....he works at one of the biggest companies in our city and there is over 20 of them. I'm just assumeing the other sixteen are completely brain dead to get him in to that position !!!
