Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 25, 2010 10:08 pm After reading about and doing research on larger builders such as M etricon and P orter D avis, I would also like to get some feedback regarding smaller builders such as C and J designer homes, Sherbrooke construction and also Kleinert homes. What are your experiences with larger builders versus smaller builders (specially the ones listed), designs, craftsmanship etc. From looking at the houses that C and J designer and Sherbrooke build, they seem rather expensive, is this true? Also, how long would i expect to wait until the house is finished from the purchase of land. I appreciate your feedback as this is our first time building and we have little experience in the whole thing. By the way, we are looking at building in Eltham (but have yet to buy land) Re: Recommend good smaller builders in melbourne 2May 01, 2010 10:51 am We have signed a contract with Makro constructions, a very small builder based in Eltham. We originally went through National Builders Group as the broker and then the actual contract is with the small builder. We haven't started yet but we've met them and they appear to run a tight ship and best of all, got good vibes about their honesty. (which is important in this trade!) Spoke to them yesterday and we expect to start within weeks, so I'll let you know how they go. Re: Recommend good smaller builders in melbourne 3May 03, 2010 2:34 pm We looked and pretty much got up to contract stage with Homes Now and Simonds Homes but got sick of trying to be ripped off. We gave up on the large builders and went for a local builder. I recommend checking the builders in your area, I find they are better as they really want your buiness, and will do a better job as they rely on their reputation. We are building in the Upper Yarra Valley. Re: Recommend good smaller builders in melbourne 4May 05, 2010 12:36 pm Find a builder who works for himself, no way would I go with a volume company. The short cuts they use in building are way too many to mention. Keep asking friends for recommendations and interview as many as you have time for. We settled after 6months of searching and 10 quotes. We are very lucky. Our builder is a chap that is very proud of his workmanship and is on the job everyday supervising no other projects. We were the same. Our builder works for himself but includes all the same stuff as a large volume builder. The only thing is you have to get your own plans drawn up. Re: Recommend good smaller builders in melbourne 6May 06, 2010 10:54 am We're looking for a Builder to do our renovation/extension in the Bayside area and would prefer to use a smaller builder rather than the big one's. I'd be interested to know if anyone has used a local builder recently and that they can recommend. In particular I'd be interested in hearing from McKinnon if he/she wouldn't mind mentioning the name of the builder as that builder sounds like the type of builder we'd be looking for. Re: Recommend good smaller builders in melbourne 8Aug 25, 2012 11:57 am it is a strange thing that people generally think good or bad. but a builder may seem good and only done a few jobs. still an unknown quantity. another builder may have built 1000 homes, had a problem or two and been badly bagged by a few clients. of course, even if all of it was true, and often it isnt, the long-term builder may well have fixed the problem and could be doing good work. one should not make snap judgements, at least not quite so quickly. just a bit of rationality. leighton clark clark new homes. Re: Recommend good smaller builders in melbourne 9Aug 27, 2012 4:22 pm Lentini Homes, in Mill Park is a great builder. He has display homes in Point Cook, Lalor and Mernda. Impact Designer Homes are really good too. They have displays in Mernda also. Cheers Lokster Hi All, We have recently purchased a sloping block (3.5m fall building envelope, 6m overall). Just wondering if you know of any good builders that you would recommend for… 0 1774 9 24791 Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads? Or is both the same? 6 7272 |
