Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 24, 2010 8:13 am Does anyone have over 0.4 hectares and needed to get a flora and fauna assessment? Has anyone had a habitat hectare assessment and associated net gain report? Has anyone needed to provide an offset for loss in native vegetation? If so, I'd love to hear your story!! We have 0.5 hectares and we are looking at needing to provide a 0.1-0.2 hectare offset site ...... Building on an acre in Macedon ......one day. Re: Habitat hectare assessment and offset? 2Apr 24, 2010 8:20 am Not Exactly, But we did have just under 1 acre and a portion of that was heavily covered, so we needed to provide an Ecology Report. Cost $660 dollars for a guy to look around the site for a few hours, and write the report. The outcomes were that we had to provide 3 possum boxes, and 5 bird breading boxes, to replace the natural tree habitats we were removing. I suspect the results could vary significantly depending on what they find. Good Luck. We've had to pay $4000 for a very extensive report. There was nothing particularly significant that was found .... there's not even any area that is "heavily covered". It seems the DSE have a very rigid system in place with regard to removal of native vegetation, but I haven't yet heard of any council that is actually following it through - except ours. Is there anyone else who's been through this? Building on an acre in Macedon ......one day. Re: Habitat hectare assessment and offset? 4Apr 26, 2010 4:57 pm Anyone else know what I'm talking about? Just to build a house, or anything other than a dwelling? Is it for a commercial enterprise? I deal with offsets at work at times but is more on a corporate level. Where can I get more info please? Re: Habitat hectare assessment and offset? 6Apr 29, 2010 9:19 am Our offset is for removoval of 400m2 of vegetation for a residential house site only. Building on an acre in Macedon ......one day. Re: Habitat hectare assessment and offset? 7Jun 08, 2010 12:37 pm Hi,
As its a small area you might be able to do it yourself. Have a look at this link: http://www.dse.vic.gov.au/DSE/nrenpl.ns ... FF00260672 and click the pdf entitled Assessing applications involving native vegetation removal, March 2006 (PDF - 142 KB). It gives a good background on Net Gain and Habitat Hectares. However, as it is a grassland council may require a qualified botanist to undertake the works. Cheers, Luke Re: Habitat hectare assessment and offset? 8Jun 08, 2010 1:34 pm Thanks Luke. Council did require a botanist, and we had the report done a little while ago. We actually got our planning permit yesterday. Thanks anyway. Seems not too many people on this forum have had to go through this process, despite many having over 0.4 of a hectare. Building on an acre in Macedon ......one day.
