Re: Big family needs to build on a budget - HELP! 2Apr 24, 2010 12:19 am Cheapest option is generally to buy a standard 'cookie cutter' display home and build on a flat block....and don't change anything! The wide span homes generally can lead to an Owner Builder option and while can seem appealing on the surface can also be quite expensive if you lack experience and the ability to produce a detailed Cost Plan before you commence. The alternative is a Custom Home Building project - ie: your own design produced as a one off design for you on your block, and this will always be a more expensive option and not recommended for a shoe string budget. Think carefully before committing any funds anywhere - you need a process to get you from concept to completion that will ensure that you can keep within your budget or you may end up very dissapointed. But big family sometimes means you have to do things the hard way. Will deffinately do some more homework before jumping in. Coming back to your old stomping grounds, huh?
