Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 22, 2010 1:20 pm Hi all. I am looking for some advice on Garage doors. I am deciding on whether to go for steel sectional garage doors vs real timber. If I go steel sectional, there is an option to use "Timbertone" which gives a timber look to your garage door and comes in Jarrah, Cedar, Maple and Merbau. My only concern with using the Timbertone technology is that I really do not know how it will come out and infact if it will look obviously fake or tacky. Their website will tell you that the finished product looks great and very much like real timber but what would be really good is to see it on display on a garage. I live in Sydney and it has been hard to get anyone to tell me where I may be able to see a completed timbertone effect garage door. Does anyone in this forum happen to know where I may be able to see an example of this live in Sydney. I am interested in either the Jarrah or Cedar colour. Any help on this matter would be appreciated. Thanks Re: Steel Sectional Garage Door vs Real Timber Garage Doors? 2Apr 22, 2010 3:09 pm Hi, I have just posted a reply, didn't know where it went then realised it's in Michelle's Interior Decorating area. Basically, we have a steel timber look door and are really happy with the effect. We went through a company called Gryphon who posted out to me samples pieces of their timber look steel colours and provided addresses of houses in my area who had their doors and what colours they were. We decided on the teak look with 4 windows. Here is a photo of our door. http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu350/davdenwa/Brindabella%20Nearly%20Completed%20April%202010/P1070300.jpg Re: Steel Sectional Garage Door vs Real Timber Garage Doors? 3Apr 22, 2010 7:43 pm I have something similar to the above picture. It looks quite natural from a distance and I have even had people come up and touch it to conform that it isn't real (as funny as that sounds). My only advice is that if you are planning on having real timber on the facade of your house, whether it be timber stained windows, doors or decking, then the garage door will start too look quite artificial and you will not be able to get colors to match. So I'd say it's a good product and looks good but it is not to be used in conjunction with real timber in other immediate areas or it will look fake. Hi I am wanting some opinions about the build of a steel shed I am going to get one about 4.5 x 2.5 m steel shed and the height will be about 2.3-2.4m high The one I am… 0 14442 This is 100% true. You can not hang anything on steel frames. very frustrating 8 8023 It's a classic case of aesthetics subjugating function where style takes precedence over practicality. 3 3943 |
