Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Apr 18, 2010 7:39 pm Hi all, we are building soon in botanic ridge... i have heard rumors that we are not getting smart wiring due to the costs. Is this true? and if so what internet options do we have. Re: Smart Community-Telstra Velocity- Do we have in our area 2Apr 18, 2010 8:30 pm Check out http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/ Re: Smart Community-Telstra Velocity- Do we have in our area 3Apr 19, 2010 6:15 am you will have no choice, all new estates will have 'telstra velocity' which will control your phone / data / cable pay tv. quote: Jeuno Take a look at this website and compare it with your current broadband packages and see if it's any better. http://bc.whirlpool.net.au/bc/isp-1-9/t ... locity.htm Also, we're locked in with Tel$tra for home phone as well. We can't get a line with ANY phone company but Tel$tra. Why is that you asked? Because there are no copper lines being laid in new estates. Tel$tra own 100% of the Fibre line that is connected to your home. The ACCC could not do anything about this as there are currently no legislation or law to enforce Tel$tra to open up their Fibre network to other ISP, thus creating a MONOPOLY!!! I don't think the prices will go down again anytime soon as they've recently revised their pricing after S0l Trujil0 guy were removed from Tel$tra. Again, this is only my opinion. Tel$tra has always been the most expensive ISP in my mind and not value for money. the labor government are looking at splitting Tel$tra from wholesale and retail, at the same time, they're looking at building the $43 Billion Dollars NBN (National Broadband Network) expecting to be done by something like year 2018. At the moment, there is not much really happening with this either. NBN company has been created and that's pretty much it. Re: Smart Community-Telstra Velocity- Do we have in our area 4Apr 19, 2010 8:28 am Hi bellabelinda, We are in stage 2b at Botanic Ridge and the news on the internet isn't good. Not sure if anything has changed in the 6 months since we shifted in but definitely no smart wiring. We even struggled to find any suppliers with ADSL points available and no suppliers to my knowledge have ADSL 2+ (even though many providers will tell you they can hook you up). It has been very frustrating as we were told the estate would be fitted with fibre-optics but due to costs this never happened. For the 1st month after shifting in our only option was mobile broadband however due to poor mobile coverage (this varies greatly throughout the estate) we had to ditch this as it was taking 7 minutes to open a page, we managed to find that TPG had some ADSL points after trying all other prowell known providers and whilst the speed isn't blistering it's not too bad. Lovely place to live but not at the forefront of technology! Hope this helps? Re: Smart Community-Telstra Velocity- Do we have in our area 5Apr 19, 2010 7:50 pm youngone1973 this is not good... i was dready this news , thanks i guess we will have to wait and see what we can get.... dont want to be on mobile or wireless due to the costs and coverage. Why is it we are the only new estate in the are that is not getting smart wiring... its not fair!!!! I will pay for it... it should be an option for those that want it, i hope that they are still thinking about it for the future. Re: Smart Community-Telstra Velocity- Do we have in our area 7Apr 19, 2010 8:17 pm I just found out that Telstra won't even give us ADSL 2 in my estate (20 min from Perth CBD), what a crock that they aren't providing new developments with up-to-date hardware. Such crooks. Smart wiring is the term used for the internal cabling of the house, Ie structured cabling solutions to ensure you can get services in each room, I could go on about this but it is covered several times on the fourms A "smart" community is a marketing term used to push verlocity into new estates Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: Smart Community-Telstra Velocity- Do we have in our area 9Apr 21, 2010 3:22 am Vundaful!
