Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Is everyone here building new?! 21Apr 13, 2010 9:16 am We knocked down our whole Victorian house (kept shell of 3 bedrooms, leaving fire places intact) and rebuilding - I have a post dedicated to our 'journey' but nothing much has been done (to the post that is ). Our house is well over 100yrs old - it's about 6 weeks away from being completed. All up, I reckon it will be around $200K - maybe a tad more. We didn't want to move as we have the best spot in town so chose to do the reno rebuild option. Can't wait to post some before & after pics when I get a minnie. My other half has worked his a*se off for the last 9mths as well, so we've saved quite a lot with him and some great mates helping out - thank god for tradie mates Jazz Life is like a lolly, suck it and see Re: Is everyone here building new?! 22Apr 13, 2010 9:38 am In the starting gates for renovation now. Speaking with builders and getting ideas together for our 1912(i think) Cal Bung. Looking at about $200k just in the renovation + fixtures Could be a lot more than we are hoping. Re: Is everyone here building new?! 23Aug 02, 2010 8:31 am Hi we are renovating slowly we have a 90 year old Federation Terrance in Sydney and it's so hard to find people in the same boat as it's a whole different ball game... ! hope to see a new forum on here soon for it.. Re: Is everyone here building new?! 24Aug 02, 2010 9:30 pm Please can we have a forum for renovators We are about to start extending and renovating our 110yo Victorian house in inner west Melbourne. We are planning on living in our shed for the duration of the building of the extension (5-6 months estimate). It would be great to be able to discuss some of the issues common and unique to renovators of existing houses such as: blending the old house with the new sourcing period features/fittings making an old house energy efficient dealing with heritage issues dealing with council regarding building permits to live in or move out costs and I'm sure there are plenty of other topics that I can't think of at the moment.... Re: Is everyone here building new?! 25Aug 02, 2010 9:34 pm A renovators forum would be great! Can we, can we pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease? Renovation Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=38489 Re: Is everyone here building new?! 26Aug 03, 2010 10:45 am We are renovating a 60 year old Califonian bungalow which we moved onto the property. We are doing all the labour ourselves except electrical, but my OH is a carpenter. It is slow, but we didn't want to take a loan, and looking at the above prices we couldn't affor to anyway!!! I like doing it slowly though, because by researching and shopping around for products I have saved a LOT on materials Re: Is everyone here building new?! 28Aug 03, 2010 3:56 pm I will to for what it's worth. Maybe we need to start a dedicated thread for us outcasts. We've been back 'home' for nearly 11 weeks now & I never thought I would feel 'at home' after the transformation - blending Victorian into contemporary. We love it .....best thing we ever did & worth every yelling match Happy to answer any questions - I'm just the chief cook & bottle washer but I've learnt a bit over the last 9mths Jazz Life is like a lolly, suck it and see Re: Is everyone here building new?! 31Aug 03, 2010 5:59 pm Another renovator here. Have done 4 houses before but current one is by faaar the worst. The only thing that has gone smoothly through the whole thing is the carpet laying....That leaves a lot of things that have gone wrong! I am convinced that building new would have been a whole lot easier. For reference, this is the Austlii reference.
