We are not sure whether we should choose a roof-mounted tank or a tank on the ground. I you have installed such as system we would be interested to know what are the pros and cons of roof versus ground tank. Some pros and cons we can think of are: Roof mounted: * may need roof reinforcement (extra cost for house building?) * look bulky on the roof Ground mounted: * includes a small electric pump to circulate water up to the solar panel - pump consumes electricity, it can fail Re: Solar hot water system - tank on roof versus tank on gro 2Apr 07, 2010 8:40 am The biggest issue is maintenance. If something does go wrong, it is a hell of a lot cheaper to have someone on the ground fix it than someone on the roof fix it. The cost to reinforce the roof to take the load of a tank is more than the cost of a small concrete pad for a tank on the ground to sit on. Tank on the ground can be easily placed out of site or surrounded by a timber wall/cladding feature. A tank on the roof cannot be easily hidden like that.
