I’m about to do some research on it, but I know all the IT guys will be up to speed on it.
Is it worth it?

There are some pretty big issues with it in regards to it's inability to display Flash websites/content (which make up a fairly significant proportion of the internet these days). Either way, if you can hold off on purchase till the generation 2 ipad comes about do so. Generation 1 apple anything will make you cry... it either doesn't work quite properly or within 6 months the latest release comes out and it's smaller, faster, cheaper... Re: IT Gurus - Apple iPad!! 3Apr 06, 2010 7:57 am Jayneylou……you’re right, if I wait it will improve, as like everything. Thanks heaps for the info! Google Tablet should be out some time late this year or early next. 4. Skiff reader (this is only e-book) http://www.skiff.com this is made of flexible material. or if you can wait the ipad 2 will be released some time in 2011-12 with the fixed mistakes that apple has made with the ipad v.1. Re: IT Gurus - Apple iPad!! 7Apr 06, 2010 10:02 am The flash issue is unlikely to be resolved in the short term... there are many articles about the reasons why but when you've got two CEOs as hard headed as Apple and Adobe bashing against each other don't expect it to change any time soon. Re: IT Gurus - Apple iPad!! 8Apr 06, 2010 4:18 pm mmm Adobe has buckled and is developing software to port onto the iphone / ipad. Although when HTML5 hits, there will be no need for flash players. Anyway back OT. Don't get an iPad IMO. for a device that is supposed to be like a PC, it acts nothing like a PC. As it stands it's a bigger iPhone without call functionality. If you're insistent on a tablet device the HP Slate already beats the iPad in almost every aspect. IMHO wait for the google laptop which is expected Q4 this year. ---------------------------------------- Building the PD Lisbon 24 http://www.porterdavis.com.au/#homeviewer/lisbon/24 Blog of our progress. http://lisbon24.blogspot.com/ Homeone build thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28665 Re: IT Gurus - Apple iPad!! 9Apr 07, 2010 9:07 am maybe get this when it comes out instead Michelle. HP Slate. features a camera, a USB port and supports Adobe Flash. http://www.news.com.au/technology/hp-slate-steps-up-tablet-war-against-ipad/story-e6frfro0-1225850741036 Re: IT Gurus - Apple iPad!! 10Apr 07, 2010 9:40 am The iPad is essentially an ipod touch thats bigger.. Im a MAC guy myself and even i couldnt see any reason to carry that thing around. You would get more benefit from a cheap laptop for the same $$. Apple tend to be behind the 8 ball with releasing features, so like the others have mentioned you might want to wait a bit before making a decision as im sure the market will be flooded with cheaper, better alternatives. Re: IT Gurus - Apple iPad!! 13Apr 07, 2010 10:00 pm Im in two minds about the iPad, and I'm a Mac person through and through. Between me and Pinky we have imac, macbook pro, ipod touch, apple tv and two apple airports, yet I have not been "dazzled" by the iPad. Obviously, and in all fairness I have not been able to touch one yet but from the reports so far, and these are the "positive" reports I have not been impressed by it. It appears to be an iPod Touch, with a larger screen... Now that said, the Touch is a brilliant device and it plays an integral part in our home entertainment system. I guess what it really comes down to is what are you going to use it for. One of the problems with apple gear is that its usually tuned to its own in-house stores (itunes) and is often unreceptive to outside sources, which is one of the quietly spoken reasons behind apple's incompatibility with flash, and from what I am hearing, there are not many apps available for it - yet. Also there will be a delay in Australian access to the iBook store. This was a problem with apple tv at the start, as the rental store from itunes was not available to Australian customers. My suggestion is that we do NOT rush out and grab one. Wait until all the associated services are up and running, and I would also be waiting for iPad v2. Most likely it will be out before Christmas. Re: IT Gurus - Apple iPad!! 14Apr 07, 2010 10:23 pm We will probably get one at some stage - it looks great. DP has taken to downloading books onto his Ipod (not for me...a book has to have real paper pages ) which would be easier to read on the IPad. I think he also wants it because he can. He was one of the first in Aus to get the IPod when they first came out and cost $995! the price you pay for being what marketers call an "early adopter" of technology now they are a quarter of that price. Re: IT Gurus - Apple iPad!! 15Apr 08, 2010 5:57 am Where did all these answers come from, I didn’t even get an email reply to these Thanks everyone!! I thought it would be a good toy to use in real estate while I was away from the office. I thought I would be able to hook up back to the Database and see what’s in there, answer emails….all that sort of stuff, and not have to lug the notebook around with me????? I actually understood all of that. Thank you so much for the info, I’ll be waiting for a while longer. That would be good, but you could do the same thing (and possibly more) with an iPhone. Remember that for an iPad to be "mobile" you will need to get the 3G version which is more $$$. The basic model is Wi-Fi only. I think the iPad will be best suited to home life, for "casual" net-surfing and the like (such as surfing home-one ) The lack of a tangible keyboard will become a drag after too long. Rowena I think he also wants it because he can. Is that not Apple's strongest marketing tool? Re: IT Gurus - Apple iPad!! 19Apr 08, 2010 4:19 pm OK…..not getting one. Thanks all! Michelle expressed publicly her desire to own an Ipad Obviously she itching to spend the money to have one so let her have one. After all is her money not yours. As far as the gurus here well we just philosophical or rather think about getting one if we ever need one. Hey I just purchased an apple ipad to use on site. If you are using an ipad on site, I was wondering what you all are using for construction related apps to make site… 0 1627 |
