Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Internal door height - 2040 or 2340? 22Apr 03, 2010 3:17 pm Our bi-folds for externals we have a choice of 2110 or 2390... I'm not too sure what to go for... $500 difference between the heights! I'm thinking the 2110 would be good for window dressings from the inside... but out in the alfresco it may look odd?? What are your thoughts? Sleven Moved into our Atlantique MkII 36 by Carlisle Homes Re: Internal door height - 2040 or 2340? 23Apr 04, 2010 1:18 am Higher doors have an added benefit or helping more to release heat from a room. Heat rises, so in summer when you wantmost to remove excess heat from rooms at can assist with this, especially if you have some form of escape path for that heat to exit the house. We are using a combination of house position, solar orientation, low and high opening windows on opposing sides of the house, roof windows for venting and high internal doors throughout to assist in achieving our solar passive design. Re: Internal door height - 2040 or 2340? 25May 07, 2017 4:34 pm lealicious We were going to upgrade to 2700 high ceilings, but the cost plus higher doors pushed us over our budget. So we decided to just go for 2580 ceilings, which still give a little bit more extra space without the need for higher doors. We will be saving over $5000 this way. G'day All, Looking for suggestions on internal door height for ceiling height 2593. I've already increased my front door height, just wondering if it's good to increase the height of all internal doors to 2340? In other words, will it look odd if I don't do it? Please share your thoughts. Thanks in advance! Re: Internal door height - 2040 or 2340? 27May 07, 2017 9:37 pm The Mrs and I went to a display village on the weekend and boy can you ever notice the difference. Some of them had raised ceilings just to tick a box but kept the 2050 doors and windows. Bad move. Once you've been in a well designed house things like that stand out for all the wrong reasons. It feels just out of whack. Please share your thoughts. Thanks in advance! I don't think it will look odd if you don't. My rental has 3m and 2.7m ceilings with 2040 doors, I doubt anyone but me has ever noticed. That said we will have 2.7m with 2340's in the new house. The higher doors were a standard inclusion though, I'm not sure I would have paid to upgrade, probably not if we had stuck with 2550 ceilings. If you look at enough displays you will see all combinations of ceilings and door heights then you can decide if you think it looks odd. Re: Internal door height - 2040 or 2340? 30May 09, 2017 4:19 pm I think personally, higher ceilings go well with higher doors, but also it can depend on the width too. The wider the door, the higher it should be IMO. For example, if you have a 920mm door width and 2040mm height, it's almost half as wide as it is high, so it can make it look shorter than it actually is. If you have 720mm doors, then it is roughly a third. Of course, you need to then consider what access you need to rooms (wheelchairs/manouvring around corners/furniture/etc), what comes as standard on the plan, and if there is the ability to change it. I believe you cannot upgrade the door heights with a 2400 ceiling, but can upgrade to 2340mm with the 2.5 and 2.7 options. Our last house had 2550mm ceilings and had the front rooms and open plan living doors at the higher height and the back bedrooms etc at the standard height. I think with 2.5 ceilings you can have either height and not look out of place. When you go to 2.7 or more, lower doors do become more noticeable. Second Time 'Round Re: Internal door height - 2040 or 2340? 31May 09, 2017 4:57 pm Thanks mate, appreciate your thoughts. I agree if the ceiling height is 2.7, then it's definitely recommended to increase door height to 2340. My ceiling height is 2590 so really contemplating on whether I should increase the door height or not. I'm getting quotes from EB and also planning to visit display homes this weekend. Re: Internal door height - 2040 or 2340? 32May 10, 2017 2:16 pm I upgraded to 2340 from 2040. I think standard internal 2040 doors were around $40 and the 2340 $140. Re: Internal door height - 2040 or 2340? 34May 25, 2017 12:48 pm I think with 2.7m ceilings the extra height really does look better if you can afford it. But I also think it is one of those things that isn't a huge deal if you don't point it out to people. It just gives a certain feel that people won't be able to quite put their finger on why your place feels so spacious and luxurious. We couldn't afford the extra $$ so we have settled on the 2590 ceilings and standard doors. I know that once it is finished it won't be something I cringe about but it would be nice to have the extra height! Thanks pickylady, I settled with the same now - 2590 ceilings and standard doors. i imagine you also have another contract with an architect? and yeah, whatever other's said about special conditions and appendices 16 15980 Thanks. Yeh ideally that would have been good, but have progressed too far now. Hoping some well placed internal walls fixed up into the battens will provide some… 2 5393 Thank you alexp79 and gommeqld for your advice, that's very helpful, thanks 3 7898 |
