chystal gazing it is then. sorry im confused about the garage door which did you think was the better choice or will they all look good. I didnt know we could get the garage door painted, can you get them with not painted or do we order specially made? we are just deciding which walls to paint in our feature colour oil shale otherwise all good with exterior then, i suppose selecting the feature areas will help with the selecting the garage door which garage door colour Re: ANYONE WITH QUESTIONS? 64Sep 23, 2007 9:39 pm Monkeyupatree firthy 26 and others how do you make those lovely colour boards? so i can do one for externals and internals Re: ANYONE WITH QUESTIONS? 65Sep 24, 2007 7:35 am Garage Doors – “Woodland Grey” Your other choice would be to have the G-doors painted the “Stone Patino”. All of the above….check on the G-doors with your builder, you may only have two of these options available to you. My sister was looking at getting a timber door on her garage -
First choice was solid wood, but if these are not maintained 100% (every 6-12 months) they show weathering and can even warp besides the fact that they were the most expensive option. Second choice was the colourbond look alike. Problem is that there are only certain colours available and to me they look fake (the ones I've seen are either a real orange colour or a unnatural red). We saw some display homes with them on and from a distance (colour aside) they look ok, but within about 5m of them they look really fake and plasticky. But that's just my 2c worth. Also, VJ - we have chosen quite similar colours. Our bricks are Austral Cotham - which is in the same range as the ones you mentioned (from memory they are the shade lighter than the Newport). We looked at the Boral range (which is standard for our house) but found them all a little drab and unexciting. For our externals we chose Jasper and Paperbark colourbond colours as there isn't a lot of "browns" in the range. We also went with the Bristile Charcoal for roof. As a side point the upgrades to our bricks and tiles cost us (based on our size house) about $3K. Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: ANYONE WITH QUESTIONS? 67Sep 24, 2007 10:10 am Michelle - another question for you (sorry, I should probably PM but others may have the question somewhere lurking in their mind as well) ....
When you have a feature wall (ie. a red wall) is it OK to put some artwork on the wall as well or should it be left fairly much as is. I keep looking at the walls thinking they are missing something but not sure if it's just because I've got used to them now and think they need something else. Thanks in advance A Re: ANYONE WITH QUESTIONS? 68Sep 24, 2007 12:33 pm Defiantly add artwork!!!!
Make sure there is a colour similar in the artwork to your feature wall colour. Not the ONLY colour, but tucked in there somewhere! Have fun! ![]() Internal and External - Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide Re: ANYONE WITH QUESTIONS? 69Sep 24, 2007 10:30 pm Hi Michelle,
I'm back, but still no photos! Went for a tour at M's studio 501 last Sunday to have a peek at the options available for us, in preparation for this week's colour selection. Forgot that Beaumont is not open on that day so was not able to get some photos of the tiles ![]() Anyway, will post the photos within the week. I really need your professional opinion ![]() ![]() We'll also go for the timber-look garage doors - looks classy, as described by Michelle. Hi Ray, thanks for the info. We initially chose the Cotham but changed our mind when we realised that it was a bit reddish (instead of creamy or brownish like Newport and Hwthorn) based on the sample wall that they have at St Albans area. We saw one of M's display home where they used Hawthorn with an off-white flush mortar and it looked great, esp. with front timber doors (which is what we'll be having). Our dilemma is with the colour of the side window frames. That's why we really wanted MIchelle's opinion on this. Need to show her the photos very soon (before contract signing on Monday). Bristile is the standard for our house, but don't know if they have colour-thru roof tiles, same as Boral. Checked your blog.. looking good! Ours might start on December. Wonder if it's possible to start November, as I heard that the construction industry has a 2-week shut-down period ![]() ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: ANYONE WITH QUESTIONS? 70Sep 25, 2007 2:00 pm Hi Michelle,
Forgot to mention that we're building a double-storey house and the upper level exterior is made of hardi-plank. Here is the link of the display home: http://www.metricon.com.au/victoria/hom ... fault.aspx If you go to the Images TAB, you would see the facade that we chose. The only difference is that we won't be rendering the lower area (too expensive!), just the 3 posts supporting the veranda. If we're gonna use Hawthorn or Newport, can you suggest a colour for the upper area? Unfortunately, we're using Bristol (internal and external). As I've said, front windows/doors are all timber (with garage door timber-look) and the side/rear ones are aluminum. Would greatly appreciate your feedback! I do admit some of the doors are little plastic looking. But I went to our local supplier to check out what they looked like for really big home I was doing. They had one there that looked great! That’s the only reason why I suggest them as I know some of them are nice. ![]() Internal and External - Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide Re: ANYONE WITH QUESTIONS? 73Sep 25, 2007 6:56 pm VJ........No luck with the Bristol website, I can’t choose colours from it…..I will call down to our local Bristol store tomorrow and get some broachers. They are right behind us at work….how good is that!!! Our car park is against their back wall…….
If you’re not rendering the lower half of the house, what brick are you using? Can you supply me a link to the bricks? ![]() Internal and External - Building and Colour Consultant Online - Worldwide Re: ANYONE WITH QUESTIONS? 74Sep 25, 2007 10:34 pm Hi Michelle,
Thank you so much! You are so nice! ![]() Imagine going to Bristol just to get some sample colours! Yes, some timber-look doors look plasticky. Probably it depends on the colour. AS far as I know, it's still made of colourbond, right? Just painted it to look like timber ![]() Re: the bricks, we're torn between Hawthorn (the darker shade) and Newport (the lighter shade). I know this is asking to much from you, but if you go to this website: http://www.australbrick.com.au/vic/project_gallery.php and choose the following options from the drow-down lists (in consecutive order: - Only Display Home - Clay Bricks - Wirecut - Melbourne 50mm (although we're not going for 50mm, as it is more expensive) - Hawthorn You would be able to view the project gallery of Austral where their bricks were used in some display homes. For the Newport bricks: - Only Display Home - Clay Bricks - Wirecut - Melbourne - Newport The remaining items that we haven't decided on are: - bricks (mortar off-white, flush) - Hawthorn or Newport - aluminum window frames (side and rear of house) - gutter/fascia - hardiplank (upper level of the house, from front to back) - internal wall (Bristol's Olivine) - skirtings and doors (normally builder uses same colour as wall but semi-gloss, but we can opt to change if we want) - ceiling (you mentioned somewhere that it's good to have semi-gloss paint for the ceiling? builder's standard is just flat) - cupboards Found some photos of the floor tiles that we like, just don't know how to insert it here.. we'll do it later. Thanks Michelle! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Built the Nevada 42 Next project - landscaping! Re: ANYONE WITH QUESTIONS? 78Sep 26, 2007 6:14 am Hi Michelle
This is a photo of our house when it was almost finished with the bricks (there will also be brick pillars in the entry). We have to give our colours to the painter shortly, and we are really panicking now. We have chosen Dulux warm neutral for the main render (roof and garage door are dune and gutter is ironstone). We were thinking for a feature colour in the entry and on the painted timber which will be in the two gables, of using Dulux oboe d'amore. Someone also suggested we paint a feature colour on the wall immediately to the right of the entry, but we aren't sure. There are a couple of other houses in the estate that have gone for purple as a feature, so we weren't sure if another feature colour would look better.
