Does the corner lose strength being done that way or is it just the large join that concerns you? Re: Is this acceptable???? 4Mar 05, 2010 10:23 pm This is not a 90 degree angle, it looks like they had to cut the bricks on a 45 angle. I think they did a good job. Re: Is this acceptable???? 5Mar 06, 2010 1:42 am Yes its not 90 deg angle and the 'perp' joint looks a little wide but I think to get the corner bond you may be talking about, with the step-look, the window might have to be moved to create that bond. Then that corner would look odd against the others. Try Google for brick bonds etc Arfur Re: Is this acceptable???? 7Mar 06, 2010 7:37 am We have similar angles, but reversed (if you know what I mean - the corners bend in, not out ) in our alfresco room, and we have wide mortar joins like yours. I think it's fine, it just looks a little unattractive. I don't even notice it any more. Re: Is this acceptable???? 8Mar 06, 2010 9:40 am I dont think it looks that bad Maybe once the mortor is cleaned up, it wont stand out as much Re: Is this acceptable???? 10Mar 06, 2010 1:42 pm Macy I don't know but I wonder if an overlapping join is only possible with solid bricks, not with hollow bricks? Just a thought? Yes that is correct, but not even all solids. If they have a frog (indent) which most modern bricks do then it's still an unacceptable result. The above brickwork will look fine after a clean, look at the bigger picture, once your windows are in you will focus on those Landscape Design & Construction http://cherub.squarespace.com/ Re: Is this acceptable???? 13Mar 06, 2010 10:26 pm I didn't see anything wrong with it Had to scroll down to see what the alleged problem was Re: Is this acceptable???? 14Mar 07, 2010 11:29 am Yep, looks OK to me.......if I picked on anything, it would be the join at the angle should ideally be a whisker narrower so it looks the same width as the other mortar joins. But it might look better after the mortar dries and matches and the bricks are cleaned, like in this pic (from a real-estate ad).... When it's left properly dried for a few more days it won't be that obvious as everything will be in same colour. Compared to other major problems we have heard, this one should be acceptable. In fact judging by the extra work your brick layer has to do to fit into that angle, I think it's quite good. Re: Is this acceptable???? 16Mar 23, 2010 8:00 am it looks OK From some angles it looks like they didnt rake the prtp joint, which will make it look wider than it is. After a wash and clean it will come up better (looks like they could have sponged down a bit better to remove those stains, but this shouldnt be a problem when they clean up later - or they may call in a specialist with a high pressure pump and acid wash the walls) The gap can be adjusted so it's tighter. You can definitely set up corner cabinets to have the same gap as standard doors. 2 13531 1 4574 1 13044 |
