Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Mar 01, 2010 12:39 pm Hi, We are in the stages of choosing our tiles and dont like the standard tiles as included with our inclusions. We like the look of 600x600 Rectified, full bodied 10mm gloss cream white tiles (will try and track down a picture). I have been told that these may be more expensive to lay and that they are more expensive to buy. Does anyone know a per meter price for laying and buying these types of tiles? I have been quoted anywhere between $45pm to 38pm for the tiles themselves (area to be tiled is over 100m). Is this true or is the builder having a lend. Also has anyone built using this type of tile? If so what are they like to keep clean etc. Thanks for your help in advance. James Re: Tile choice, polished rectified or not polished rectified! 2Mar 01, 2010 12:54 pm Hi James, can't give you a number on price to lay but the price you have for tiles doesn't sound too out there. The big differences in price of the tile will be more in the type of tile, rather than whether its polished or not. In price, goes something like ceramic < porcelain glazed < porcelain full bodied. Then all your other fancy types. The laying costs will vary based on the edge, size and type of tile. Standard inclusions are usually square, 300-400 ceramic tiles. Ask the builder where he gets his tiles from and go take a look at them yourself, they should have prices on each. I've seen porcelain glazed for around $25 (base range porcelain glazed but nicer than ceramic) but thats with a rectified edge as well, so the laying costs will go up even if the base tile price doesn't. I don't think I saw a full bodied porcelain under $35. Re: Tile choice, polished rectified or not polished rectified! 3Mar 01, 2010 5:39 pm A big factor for price is the country of origin. Italian tiles cost more than Chinese tiles. If you look closely at the quality of the tile (mainly the surface finish), the Italian tiles are better. They love the look but they find them hard work to keep clean as they show everything. We ended up taking ours out of contract as they were crazy expensive to lay through the builder. Ours were $60/sqm standard price but we got them on a special at $30. The laying for us is around $66/sqm. It seems to be a lot more expensive to lay as they have to pack each tile due to size and how close they get laid etc. Ours start going down Monday.
