Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 24, 2010 7:46 pm We are applying for a building permit and the surveyor has asked us for a copy of the Title. I know we don't have one, so can someone tell me the easiest and quickest way of getting one? Also, what exactly is it called? I've found a few sites where you can apparently order this stuff online, but there are about 30 different documents. Heeeellpp.. Re: Copy of Land Title 2Feb 24, 2010 7:49 pm When you bought your block you would have signed a contract, which would have had a vendor's statement in it, which would have a copy of title in it. If you have a look through your copy of the contract you should find it, and if you don't have a copy of the contract, contact the conveyancer or solicitor who acted for you in the purchase of your land - they will have a copy. Also, the developer / R.E. Agent you bought the block off will also have a copy. Re: Copy of Land Title 4Feb 24, 2010 8:28 pm I would assume that the copy of title along with a copy of the signed contract should be enough for the surveyor's needs. If he insists on having a copy with your name on it, there are two options that I can think of. One would be to contact your conveyancer and ask them to get a copy for you and pay them for it. The second is to contact your conveyancer and ask them where they get their copies of title from and get it yourself. The Victorian site is https://www.landata.vic.gov.au/tpc/tpc_home.aspx but it will be different depending on what state you're in. Re: Copy of Land Title 5Feb 24, 2010 8:52 pm Builders always need to be sure that you actually own the land you're asking them to build on - same would go for surveyors, I expect. Contracts can fall through, and if you purchased a property a while back, it's always possible that you've subsequently sold it, so they will usually need something proving ownership. A current council rates notice is usually OK - and the copy of the title that you have should be fine if they need land dimensions etc, no matter if the previous owners names are on it. If they won't accept that, you'll have to get a current title search...the link dilla posted is a good place to start. Flamingo Give me a call and I will do my best to talk you through it.
