Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 11, 2010 7:10 pm We're having trouble with deciding between insurance companies, one our families are familiar with and GIO. Just wondering, if anyone has had a claim with them, and how easy it was? I noticed their PDS had lots of restrictions on proof of purchase/etc so it kind of appears at claim time it would be difficult. What is your experience? Re: Anyone claimed with GIO 2Feb 11, 2010 7:30 pm I am sure it was GIO that I claimed with when a guy went into the back of me when I was 38wk pregnant. Not much damage, but the rear bumper needed replacing. One phone call, I think was all it took. It was much better than the only other claim I had to make (in UK), although that was not helped by the guy not giving way blaming me, whereas the one here admitted he was at fault. The one PITA was the hire car I got was a small 3dr hatchback - it was bad enough being so big, but I also had a toddler to get in & out of the car I have just re read your post - are you referring to home contents? Re: Anyone claimed with GIO 4Feb 12, 2010 12:03 pm GIO is ok. But like all Insurance companies, when claiming you do need to provide proof of ownership/purchase (this can be receipts, invoices, manuals, the box it came in, photographs of the item / jewellery being worn etc etc). I wouldn't say that they're difficult to claim from (no more so than any other Insurer I believe!!) viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Re: Anyone claimed with GIO 5Feb 12, 2010 12:40 pm Yeah but unlike other insurance companies that state a list of items for what is needed for proof of purchase, GIO are very specific for each type of item - none of the other PDSs I read are so specific. Most accept whatever we can give, so if it's a second hand item we bought in the Quokka we can just give the manual and a photo or so on, but if it's say a TV that as new the equivalent is more than $5000 (which we have) we can't give them a proof of purchase with product description.... So do they follow the PDS as bible? Because if so our most expensive items won't be covered as we got most second hand.... Re: Anyone claimed with GIO 6Feb 12, 2010 12:42 pm If thats the case, then take a photo of the item and store in a safe spot Stat decs are also able to be provided in some circumstances. We handle quite a number of GIO claims and they're quite simple really. Basically if you have 'new for old' cover, then thats what you get. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! A lot of insurers these day do do new for old replacement, however do keep an eye out for the small print as depreciation can apply to items such as linen, clothing etc. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Just read the product disclosure statement thoroughly. Like Jodie said, some did apply depreciation, not too many though. The best thing about GIO is the underinsurance protection they offer - it was the biggest attractor for us. Actually, some had lots of little things. Like the fact we were going to be doing painting and flooring after handover was classed as a renovation with a couple of policies I read (every insurance defines renovation slightly differently) and said that they wouldn't cover theft of the materials or malicious damage using them such as using the paint to cause damage. Most class renovations more reasonably though. Wish you all the best. Once you signed the contract, they will find millions excuses to charge you. And have seen their sites unfinished for a long time. 4 25053 As title suggests, looking at using the interlocking Pentablock stacked stone products to replace failing timber retaining… 0 18104 I am building in claymore NSW and this is shown in the building envelope plan. … 0 10213 |
