I want to buy an outdoor spa/jacuzzi for my rear verandah, but not sure what is exactly involved in getting it all set up.. Does it require plumbing to the mains, or it is just filled up via hose?? Also, does it need to be hardwired to the power at the house?? I know they have a pump and need electricity, just trying to figure out if I need to factor in cost of plumber and sparky to install as well.. Re: Outdoor Spa - Need plumbing & electrical connections?? 5Aug 17, 2007 3:52 pm You fill it (and top it up occasionally) with a hose.
By law, it must be in a fenced enclosure, or be fitted with a lockable cover that is child resistant (never say child-proof - they'll find a way!). They must also be hardwired by law as well - but this is only at local government level, and your council may or may not follow this. Our council insists on hardwiring (32A circuit, minimum 4mm sq cable) back to the meter box and the fitment of an ELCB (earth leakage/safety switch). You are supposed to apply for a permit to install one (99.9% of people don't) and council will inspect the slab or location to ensure it can take the weight of a water-filled spa, as well as inspecting the electrical installation, and the fencing/cover. I installed my own spa. with the help of a licenced sparky. Basically layed a 100mm slab with F72 reo in it, located it, ran the conduit & wire, and had the sparky connect each end. Mine also has a 20A ELCB in the 'works' of the spa as well.. In-laws did theirs the same way, and no probs with council. If there have been changes, variations, during construction then the drawings should be revised, the building permit amended and the current, as built drawings given to… 2 4444 Building Standards; Getting It Right! It's all good. You can get both wye piece and the coupling with or without thread. The cost difference is negligible and means the plumber only has to carry the single… 1 4853 3 3554 |
