Add old "driveways, paths and garage floors" to the list of things to check before doing any work. Actually given the constant wear from tyres and feet they probably should be checked anyway.

We had asbestos sheeting removed from the bathroom and eves, and we think one of the boundary fences is asbestos as well, but it is painted and in good condition. So be careful renovating even if your house was built after the 1970's. They abviously knew by 1980 that they shouldn't be using it. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... What you are looking at is fibrous plaster, true gypsum, it is cast on horizontal beds with fibers included to give strength.
