Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Feb 02, 2010 7:29 pm Hi All,
We have just popped down to our site and have seen that a brace has been put across a wall where there is supposed to be a door cutout. The door is supposed to be between the family and the hallway. The attached pic is of the brace (taken from the family room through to the hallway). Is there any reason why they would have put a brace across if they are going to have a cut out for the door or do you think they have just buggered up??? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated. BTW after looking at this we have decided that we like it much better with the complete wall there. How do you think we should approach the builder about this... I don't really want this to hold up our build in any way. Thanks heaps in advance for your help. It does look like they are planning to put a wall in If you have changed your mind, and they have made a mistake... then it should work in both parties favour. If it were me, I'd just have a chat to the SS about it. Find out what's going there... and see if you can reach an agreement. buzz ETA. If they have made a mistake, but you would rather it that way... and they are happy to leave it - then it should save you time, as they won't have to fix it. Re: Missing Door?? 3Feb 03, 2010 1:28 pm Like Buzz said, sort it out with the builder if thats the way you like it now, just in case some eager beaver discovers the over sight, after finding a door left over, and decides to install it. It looks like a longer walk to the dunny is the only problem. Arfur Re: Missing Door?? 4Feb 03, 2010 6:48 pm Thanks for the replies guys, The doorway was in the plans and the display home the whole time, we didn't even think of not having the doorway there but like i said, we really like it like this now. The only problem is we don't get to meet our SS until completion of the roof and bricking, It seems like a long time before we get to meet him. Is it normal not to meet him for so long? Should i call the building company and ask for the SS to meet us out on-site to discuss it or wait until its our time to meet him. Yeah the walk to the toilet may be the only downside, it isn't really that far though, we did a couple of walk arounds to see how annoying it would be. I have updated my original post to include the display home pic to show the doorway. Thanks Again Re: Missing Door?? 5Feb 14, 2010 2:15 pm Good News..... I spoke to our SS about a couple of issues in our build and mentioned the door... He sounded really surprised that the carpenters had missed this. He is more than happy to leave the wall as is and is even happy to move the light switch for free.... YAY. Re: Missing Door?? 6Feb 14, 2010 3:37 pm That's great news. It will make your family room much more versatile for furniture placement. What a lucky mistake. Re: Missing Door?? 8Feb 15, 2010 12:37 pm Mango Pity they didnt give you a discount for the door they now dont have to install. i'm sure if it had of been an extra one you wanted, they would have charged you. nevermind, at least it all worked out for the best. Yeah, I would've phrased the question like "Would there be any compensation if we just opt to leave the wall as is?". But I agree, I like the solid wall, makes the family room much more usable. To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9863 Hey guys building a new place through a volume builder and just wondering if i should complain to the site supervisor as we just had plasterboard installed. Looks like… 0 11274 Yes, the builder is required to finish the wall. What else have you missed? 1 3363 |
