PLEASE HELP 3Jan 29, 2010 11:49 pm Hmmmm, I wonder what makes you say that, Casa? Are the rules different for steel and timber? I know the tolerance for timber frame (1 cm), but not sure if it applies to steel as well. I would have thought that steel would need to be supported even better than timber Bromaco, here is the doco that people use for this kind of thing: http://www.buildingcommission.com.au/resources/documents/S+T_GUIDE_07.pdf Do you have any pics for us?? Lex, Thanks for that. So only 10 mm is allowed for 90 mm walls and 15 mm for 110 mm brickwork. Another thing to note is that fixing into the slab must be a minimum of 50 to 70 mm from the edge. This may end up being a harder thing to satisfy if there is a lot of overhang. Bromaco, How much overhang do you have? Cheers, Casa Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: Steel Frame overhanging.....???? PLEASE HELP 7Jan 30, 2010 1:36 pm That's more than 50%! What does the builder say? Have you thought of engaging a qualified independent inspector? How far is your build? Casa, forgot to say, I asked because I heard something similar to what you said - that about 1/3 is still OK to overhang (this is for timber frames) - unofficially. Because this is unofficial and unconfirmed (and an isolated opinion of an individual), I thought better to stay within the published tolerances, better safe than sorry. So it's interesting that it seems that you heard similarly. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Steel Frame overhanging.....???? So it's interesting that it seems that you heard similarly. I came up with the one-third figure using logic. The way I look at it, as long as two-thirds of your frame is bearing on good concrete, it would be OK. Now over 50% ... that's disgusting!
