Everything must be folded the same way so it looks neat in the cupboard. I am gen Baby Boomer though so this might have something to do with it. I tend to iron my hand plus I'm useless at it. My DH does the ironing, he's much better at it than I am. Re: Where do you iron? 23Jan 29, 2010 1:08 pm I love to iron! At the moment in our rental the iron is in the living room behind the couch so I can watch TV while ironing However - I'm not sure what we're going to do in our new house. I might just roll it out to the TV area once a week to do the ironing (it only takes an hour to do all the shirts, skirts etc). I have a lovely Laura Starr ironing system After 4 years - we're in! Re: Where do you iron? 24Jan 29, 2010 1:20 pm kek Helyn Anyway, I dont iron everything but I do iron cotton/denim shorts, jeans, some shirts Helyn...you iron JEANS??? ... Hahahaha (and my reading pauses here until I write this ) !!! I thought exactly the same thing!! And shorts too ??? My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Where do you iron? 25Jan 29, 2010 1:26 pm There is nothing wrong with ironing jeans! (Unless you're putting a pleat or crease in it - then that's just wrong) Our jeans come off the line a bit wrinkly - looks sort of funny if you're wearing skinny jeans that are wrinkled (not so much if it's a relaxed fit) After 4 years - we're in! Re: Where do you iron? 26Jan 29, 2010 1:55 pm stonecutter1309 There is nothing wrong with ironing jeans! (Unless you're putting a pleat or crease in it - then that's just wrong) Our jeans come off the line a bit wrinkly - looks sort of funny if you're wearing skinny jeans that are wrinkled (not so much if it's a relaxed fit) Same here, ours are really wrinkled and stiff as are the shorts AND t-shirts, who has clothes that dont wrinkle on the line ??? WHO I ASK! Re: Where do you iron? 27Jan 29, 2010 2:12 pm Oh sc, there's nothing wrong with it, I'm just surprised at the idea that some people would iron them ('cause it wouldn't even cross my mind)! For me, it's a very good shake so you can hear the "whips" (sometimes gently stretch tough cotton shirts too) as it's going onto the line, and no hanging by the ends whatsoever so that, for example, Ts develop those sad prolonged drop down triangles . Then onto hangers (the tops and pants). I actually dry my cotton jackets on hangers (on the line) - and they definitely don't need ironing. Ironing - only the business shirts/pants and my work stuff. Sometimes casual stuff too, but on as-need basis only. I find that there is no difference (to the naked eye) between ironed and non ironed Ts after it's been on you for just a little while. It's like they 'iron themselves' pretty much as they are being worn, and very quickly. Once I realised that, I got less work for myself. I purposely planned one of our "spare" bedrooms as sawing/ironing room, with lots of light and sunlight for free heating in winter. I never iron in the laundry (I just can't get myself over the psychological barrier to iron there in the tiled area for some reason, plus then I'd need to get the mobile hanger thingy there too, to hang ironed stuff as I'm going thr'u it ... too lazy). The only ironing in the laundry would be if I had that Dream Laundry the MJ has ... I also find that a front loader is much gentler on the clothes. ... but that's another topic ... Umm, yes - and cotton shorts Quote: but I couldn't see the point of ironing most of the things my mother ironed so eventually all I did was business shirts and tablecloths But What's a tablecloth?? Re: Where do you iron? 29Jan 29, 2010 3:01 pm I know, I know, it's now official that I'm on the lazy side And I have to admit I'm impressed with how some others aren't ... I'd say go for whatever suits you the most (why make our lives any harder with such things ... just enjoy what you see is right for you, I mean each of us ... ughhh, too much philospohy!!) BTW, I also don't use tablecloths!! Well, at least not in the kitchen where they would need constant washing. But I do love to have crisp super well freshly ironed cotton ones for special occassions (white for me) My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Where do you iron? 30Jan 30, 2010 4:47 pm I don't know how you can live without turning the iron on at least once a day We've only got two bedrooms, and our laundry is downstairs, so we turned the spare room into a dressing room with a full wall of cupboards. That's where I keep the ironing board, iron, and steamer (which is great for linen on the bed, curtains and anything else to awkward to fit on the ironing board) hehe Re: Where do you iron? 31Jan 30, 2010 5:41 pm I'm with a few above, I don't iron if I can help it. Most of my stuff is drip dry or doesn't require it. DP, on the other hand irons every day. Our board is permanently set up in our laundry with the iron on it. I reckon our habit will be the same in the new house, but maybe we will collapse the ironing board after use. ironing is a funny subject. I knew someone who used to iron their underwear! I used to iron pillow slips and tea towels but not anymore. I've seen the light!!! Re: Where do you iron? 32Jan 30, 2010 5:53 pm kek Helyn...you iron JEANS??? I thought everyone ironed jeans.. they are the most wrinkly things on the line (well anything that is cotton/denim).. unless you use a dryer they definetely need an iron.. Re: Where do you iron? 34Jan 31, 2010 12:34 am Gosh yes .. I iron all the time .... NOT. Our laundry is in the garage which gives you an idea where I rate ironing in general. Although we did clean out the garage the other day and I now have a lovely large area for all the washing . My husband irons his own clothes and if they don't look good for work well .... he's lucky their clean . That being said: my mother ironed my daughters clothes the other day and I looked at her freshly pressed dress today and thought she looked rather nice. So maybe pressed clothes aren't such a bad idea as long as I don't have to do it BTW our ironing board sits in the garage cupboard and gets pulled out when needed.. by someone else lol. Re: Where do you iron? 35Jan 31, 2010 1:20 am I iron all my shirts while I am wearing them so I guess I iron where ever I want to. Re: Where do you iron? 37Jan 31, 2010 6:36 am Mrs B Hi Dragonflychic I dont iron Actually, a few of us on the forum dont iron much to the horror of most ME too. I an an ironing minimalist. When I wash, I shake out the wrinkles from the wet clothes before pegging out. Then when I take them off the line I try to fold carefuly then smooth them out as I put them away. Shirts and dresses I hang on the line on hangers. Sometimes I have to iron parts of the school uniforms. I normally try to iron in front of the TV. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Where do you iron? 38Jan 31, 2010 7:53 am Wow when i clicked on this thread I was dreading hearing oh I iron here and there blah blah blah all the while thinking to myself.....iron? ironing? Best I go get my dictionary! I don't do it. Not unless it's an extreme emergency and my kids would look homeless with their crushed up clothes As with others as soon as the clothes come off the drying rack or out of the dryer it's flatten out the creases, put in the basket and either live out of the basket or get off my butt and put the clothes in the wardrobe. Once we move into the new house and we actually use wardrobes for clothes only and not mostly storage everything will definitely get sorted and hung up! .....well so I think Re: Where do you iron? 40Feb 02, 2010 10:20 am OMG. I've been without internet for an hour. No work, no play... so I went and did all my ironing. I tell a lie....I still have six business shirts and two casual shirts, because I ran out of hangers. I think those can go to the dry cleaner's tomorrow. It's worth every cent of the $12.80 it's going to cost me. Now I'm off to Bunnings and Store in search of these: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And maybe some more of these: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ ...and some more hangers.
