Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 19, 2010 9:21 pm Ok moving on from Gecko's, which i hope will move out of our house and into our shed when it is built. We went to our local shed place this arvo to pick out the shed we want. It is going to be a 6m x 3.6m x 2.4m high, we went to this particular place because i had been told to go there by a few people around town and so on. First gripe, since when can't you have black gutters on a shed? We were told that Colorbond does not do black anymore? Excuse my ignorance but we have never built a shed other than a garden shed that does not need council approval. Second grip, i was told that we need the precise plans of where the sewerage pipes and stormwater pipes run on our block, which of course is fair enough. I got this plan from the water board when we purchased the house in Oct so we knew where things were if we were going to do anything like put in a shed. I was told that the plan that i have is not good enough because it does not have distances from boundaries etc for the shed guy to draw up and submit our proposal to council on our behalf. Correct me if i am wrong and i may very well be, i thought that is what you pay your Building Application Fee for, so that council can check where you want your shed and tell you if it is too close to this that and the other pipe, house and so on. Of course he told me that i can get the right plan from council but that will cost more money. One would think that the council would check this plan as part of the process for telling you if the shed is ok to go ahead where you want it or not. I hope that this makes sense but i just came out of there thinking, what am i paying a building application/approval fee for if i have to do all the bloody work for them and tell them what they should already know. Mmmmm i am confused. Re: A Man Has To Have His Shed - Ours Is Ordered But 2Jan 20, 2010 6:57 am hi what you will need to do . is phone the council building department, ask them how close you are allowed to build to side and rear fence, easements etc. all councils have rules and regulations for these things. after you find out these rules then you can work out the size and position you want, then submit your building permit, in my case it was $75. you shouldnt have any trouble. i wanted my shed closer to the fence so i chose to take it to a council meeting, witch cost me $110 and then they rejected it again. hope this helps.... Thats right - they dont make black colourbond anymore, apparently they had too many issues with it fading etc. I think you might still be able to get other non-colourbond branded products in the black but obviously your shed company uses colourbond. We are building and had to choose "Monument" gutters/fascia, I think "Loft" is also nearly black. Re: A Man Has To Have His Shed - Ours Is Ordered But 4Jan 20, 2010 12:29 pm Hi Suenmatt, Thanks for confirming the 'Black' issue. We also ended up choosing Monument guttering and roller door with classic cream walls. I am not a fan of classic cream but the house we bought has it on window and facia so we had to go with it. My favourite colour was the Riversand but it seems they do not do that anymore either. I am having the Water people come around shortly to check where the pipes are on our land because hubby measured from the fence/boundry to the middle of the man hole for the pipe that runs behind where we want the shed and it is about 55cm from the fence but the water department says it is 2.7mts from the fence, so it must run on a big angle, who would know. I come from the north side of Brisvegas but have never had or know anyone that has built a shed in that area so i am no help to you with your shed, sorry about that. I hope yours all goes to plan.
