We have only one phone outlet (and line) in our apartment, which is in between the lounge and kitchen area. This was never really an issue until we got Naked DSL broadband, and realised that the computer obviously has to stay in the study while the broadband modem needs to be plugged into the phone outlet...and we don't want a long cable trailing throughout the apartment (cats will eat it, looks bad, etc) so we've been using wi fi, but...for some reason it just doesn't like us.
It was ok for a month or so, but then it refused to connect and nobody can really work out quite why. Grr. Apparently we have too many walls, a mirrored robe, a shower cubicle and a clothes dryer in the direct path of the modem (which must sit near the phone outlet) and the computer (which must be in the study).
So! We want to get another phone outlet in the study to relieve us of having to constantly be plugging and un-plugging the long cable whenever we use the net, and also the frustration of dysfunctional wi fi capabilities.
How much does it generally cost to get an extra phone outlet installed? We don't need a new phone LINE, just an outlet.
I'm not sure what information is required, but...
1. We're on the ground floor of a 3 storey apartment of 15 units (incl. us)
2. The room we need the outlet in has one external wall with half height window (not down to the floor), one internal wall (the other side is our bedroom), another internal wall (the other side is someone else's apartment), and another internal wall (which has a mirrored robe along its entirety)
3. When we got our broadband, Telstra came out, tagged the phone line for our apartment on the little phone wire box thing in the apartment block's garage, and then Optus actually connected the service. (we're not actually with Optus, but our ISP runs on Optus cables)
So I assume...if we get this extra outlet, Optus would need to come out again and change what they did to the existing outlet over to the new one? (the guy asked at the time which outlet we wanted the service on. I said that one, since that's the only one we've got! lol)
Does anyone know how much Optus themselves would charge to do this?
What will the Telstra-contracted people need to actually do to install this extra outlet? Bash down the walls? Oh dear.
(sorry this is so long)
