Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 16, 2010 2:52 pm We are stuck with what we want for our security screens. We are tied between the grill type which is uglier but we think this will be more effective in terms of security as any crims can see the grills from the street and will (hopefully) go for a house without them, or to go for the mesh type that will look nicer like we don't have them, and we won't get grills in the way when looking out the windows. Since we are so stuck, we thought we would come on here and see what is the better security screen in your experience. Re: Help us decide! Security screens 2Jan 17, 2010 12:08 am Can you do a mix of both? (voted for the 'other' option btw) We had the same dilemma & ended up with the Crimsafe stuff on our large rear sliding doors & the front door only. All other doors & windows will have the diamond grill stuff. We figured the Crimsafe stuff would be better on the areas we would be looking out from so our view isnt marred by the grills. This made the whole cost a lot less too. Hope this helps Cheers Kim Re: Help us decide! We will do a mixture again on our new house. Living the dream. 4 horsey acres in the country. What's the next project??? Re: Help us decide! Aren't security screens a huge pain in the butt, if only we didn't need them That being said, as I will be living in a fairly safe neighbourhood (my sister has lived in the private estate where I'm building for 13 years and neither herself or her cul-de-sac neighbourinos have had any break-ins or thefts - yay for semi-rural!) and if we were going to get security screens we'd get the mesh sort that is less visible. So I suppose it depends on your neighbourhood, or maybe the value of the stuff you're keeping inside. Re: Help us decide! Security screens 6Jan 17, 2010 11:33 am I have marine grade steel mesh on my front door and door off the meals area and then diamond mesh type one off the laundry. When the main front door is closed, you can tell that there is a security screen there, although when the main door is open it's not as obvious and it's great having an unobstructed view 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Security screens 7Jan 17, 2010 1:50 pm Thanks everyone My neighbourhood is ok, and hopefully we are lucky but we are the unlucky ones. The only thing that concerns me about the mesh type is that they have to come up to the house and give it a go first. I really don't want them doing that. If they can see we have the screens and someone else on the street don't, they'll be more likely to go to the other house. I'd go for the mesh in a second, but the main purpose is to also keep them away and maybe the grills are better at that.... Or so I think.... Gaah I still can't decide! I lean for one for a minute and the other for the next.... Re: Help us decide! While they don't obstruct your view, you can tell that they are there, especially if you put them on a window that opens and the window pane next to it doesn't have anything 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Personally I think it comes down really to the look you are after - clear view or grill view -either way its a personal thing of what you are comfortable with. We had the normal diamong grill on my last house, have just fly screen in this rental & haven't really noticed the view being any better. For us now it just means no security at all so have to close all the windows! Cheers Kim Re: Help us decide! Security screens 10Jan 17, 2010 3:45 pm we have the one you can see out but not so easy if at all in the day. Much prefer it at the front. Out back is the crimsafe. Re: Help us decide! Security screens 11Jan 17, 2010 6:47 pm We had a mix of crimsafe and grill in the house we renovated and we will do the same in the house we are building. The things I liked about crimsafe were : very easy to clean, look good and able to cope with small children leaning and pressing against them!!! If I had the money I would go 100% crimsafe. I also agree that if a burglar really wants to get in to your place they will!! I thought this would be a popular question but I haven't been able to find any similar posts.
