Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 15, 2010 3:29 pm Hi all. Back from 2 month holiday to find my house renovation in shambles. The tiling throughout the 3 rooms (kitchen, toilet, bathroom) is terrible. The grouting varies in colour, and what gets to me the most is the way the tiles have been cut around the door frames; crooked, it really does look bad and unprofessional. It turns out that the builder did it himself. When you walk around barefoot you can feel that some tiles are more raised than others? Now the builder got his money and has moved on (I left my partner in charge and he says he didn't notice this little things when the builder finished about a week a go) and we are having real trouble getting him to come and fix things. A sliding door we paid for is crooked, our hot water system has shot thru for some reason (we haven't had any hot water all this time), our house a alarm system is not working either and neither is our airconditioning! All in good working order when we handed the house over to him! I am getting really fustrated and am looking into lodging a complaint with Consumer Affairs. I am so dissapointed, the tiling in the kitchen (small kitchen) alone costed $800 and its just terrible. Any advise will be appreciated. Re: Dissapointed with House Renovation Work 2Jan 15, 2010 3:38 pm Which state are you in? Make contact with the builder and advise him you will be seeking independant advise. BTW did your partner give the builder the thumbs up or just pay him? Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Dissapointed with House Renovation Work 3Jan 15, 2010 3:45 pm We are in Victoria. My partner claims to have pointed out bits and pieces at the time things were getting done but still paid him. In my opinion my partner is at fault too for being so dumb and paying him! It all came crashing down as soon as I saw the work! Re: Dissapointed with House Renovation Work 6Jan 24, 2010 11:54 pm Nancyg, if you're not happy with the work quality then ask the builder to fix it. If the work continues to be sub-standard and he still wont fix it then you should lodge a complaint with fair trading. Keep a record of all correspondence, take photos etc. and definitely dont pay him anymore until the faults are rectified. Re: Dissapointed with House Renovation Work 7Jan 25, 2010 7:28 am you can only lodge a complaint after you pay trades people. So dont worry too much if you have paid him already. Although if you havent paid him you might see him back there i guess. However something tels me that he still woudnt have tried to fix it. Do you have photos that you can post??
