Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jul 29, 2007 9:30 am Hi everyone - what a great forum!
Hubby and I are 'intermediate' do-er uppers, we have tidied up a couple of rental properties with fresh paint, floating floors, bathrooms, kitchens, etc. We are keen to lay floating floor in a rental Unit we have purchased, but one area has a heated concrete slab. Can anyone tell me their thoughts about whether the floor will be affected by the heating? The floor we are using is the cheaper variety, 7mm with a plastic laminate timber lookalike (I know it's not the nicest, but for a rental we aren't keen to use real timber flooring). We have both sort of assumed that it is a no no, but whilst surfing I came across a few floor heating installation companies that say it is fine to do so, and that it is actually very common in European countries. Your comments would be much appreciated. Cheers, Christie Re: Floating Laminate Flooring on heated concrete slab...? 2Jul 29, 2007 9:42 am Hi Christie and welcome!
We have a couple of flooring experts here who will no doubt be able to answer your questions... Good Luck! Re: Floating Laminate Flooring on heated concrete slab...? 4Jul 29, 2007 10:31 am Hi Christie,
Nice to have you among us!! I have a question on top of your question. I’m not sure that the heat from the slab will even reach the surface of the floating floor, there for making the whole heating proses useless. Is your floating floor to be put down on batons, or will it be laid straight down on the slab with the slim underlay under it? I would be concerned about condensation building up under the foam underlay. Can someone else help me here on these issues? Thanks for your nice welcome!! The flooring will be laid on the thin foam underlay....
