Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 12, 2010 9:57 pm Hi, I have a question hoping a painter can answer for me. If someone has used waterproofing to graffiti the render of my house can it be removed? How hard would it be to have it removed? How will it be removed? Due to the content of the graffiti I don't think it would be wise to post any pics. I can PM the pics if need be. Here are some before shots to give you an idea of how big the walls and the area of render that is effected. They used black waterproofing. The graffiti is on a wall of render in the portico and another wall is to the right of the front door before the windows. (Sorry I don't have an exact pic with the render on it but it gives you an idea of the area.) Any help would be greatly appreciated PCI Done Re: Any painters out there!! Could I have some help Please! 2Jan 12, 2010 10:41 pm Hey Jose27, Very sorry to hear about the graffiti... that's just shocking! You have to wonder what these kids parents are doing, assuming it was kids, letting them run around the streets at all hours of the night. On the paint front, no idea - but surely there's a painter round here somewhere with a bit of advice Best of luck!! Re: Any painters out there!! There are specialists in this field you could try the Yellow Pages in your area, maybe they could advise you if you have no luck here. Could I have some help Please! 5Jan 14, 2010 7:21 am Why not give the technical department of the manufacturer or importer a call. They need to carry a range of information about the product for legal reasons and they have to have a point of call for this information. I'd be surprised if they weren't helpful. Good luck; I can't imagine how you'd feel, but it must be terrible. Re: Any painters out there!! Could I have some help Please! 6Jan 25, 2010 8:46 am Hi Jose, I'am a painter and theres a few ways to fix these sort of issues, one is the render will be a certain courseness i.s fine texture or course etc, you can scrape the graffiti of and render patch where it was so basically your removing the graffiti and repairing the render, doing that ensure's the render is back to a sound nature with no risk of the origanal graffiti bleeding through. or causing lump's dags etc (waterproofing membrane is thick) may sound like a big job but really isnt and is about as difficult as patching internal plasterboard. The other way is if the membrane has adhere'd well to the render, and will not be visable after using a textured coating, is to seal it (we use special sealers that can restrain bleeding etc) then apply the texture over it. There wouldnt be much information out there on the effects of a waterproofing membrane on bare external render so its really an issue of testing adhesion, making sure the surface is the correct build for coatings, and probly what i'd be more concearned about the membrane and the effects it may have to the salts that render contains. Hence why personally i'd probably remove it completely and recoat. there are different types of waterproofing membrane to take into account aswell, some are a liquid product similer to a paint but clear like a varnish, other's are a rubber like material. Painters can perform incendental work of other trades, that is solid plastering/carpentry/plastering etc we learn how to do this as part of the trade to carry out the repairs to the surfaces we are painting, so a good painter will be able to fix this for you. Re: Any painters out there!! Could I have some help Please! 7Jan 25, 2010 5:38 pm Thank you for that swarvy. Would you believe that our builder has finally made a decision on how to attack the graffiti today!!! The SS tried different solutions today to try to get if off. All it did was take the render off So after talking to the painter who started today They came to the conclusion to take the render off the 2 walls that have graffiti on them and do the render again. Now its just a matter of waiting and seeing when the renderer will be back to fix it. Hopefully before the painter has finished. Thanks again.
