Browse Forums General Discussion Re: RENOVATE OR BUY 3Jan 11, 2010 2:49 pm jay-z We are considering moving to a larger property however we are reluctant to leave our much loved home. If we were to stay in our home we would like to carry out a lowset 72m2 extension to our brick home with aluminium roof. The extension would be an extra living space and garage, however we would also like to convert our current garage (which has external access only) into an additional living space. We have budgeted 150k to carry this out however we would also like to install an inground pool. We have been quoted 80K for the pool which evidently leaves 70K for the extension. I am reluctant to have builders come out to quote as I don't want to waste their time if what we want is way over our budget - Could anyone please advise if we are within our budget or stuck in la la land! Builders giving quotes is what they do, they may not enjoy it, but that’s how they get their work. Don’t feel bad about calling one, get the name and number of a reputable builder from people you know. Call him to give a quote; you won’t know if you don’t try! If it looks like its way out of your budget then at least you know. My daughter is doing similar to you and has the same amount of money to work with …after your pool. In my eyes, if you don’t go all out and buy nothing but the best this is achievable. Good luck.
