Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jan 07, 2010 12:10 pm See the big fat white pipe thing capped off at the end of the tank? There is one at the other end also (which happens to cover the junction box so now we have NO access to that to wire up our outdoor lights ) The one at this end comes across the window of the bedroom. LOVELY. I am going to try to screen it off, do I need access to this thing for some reason. Is it part of the "charged sytem"? Wonder if its an inspection point that they wanted to be lower than the top T and thought this would be an easy way....? There is ANOTHER tank the same they are end to end and another one of those stupid things at the front. It has been put right in front of the junction box on the wall, which has 2 screws to hold the cap on. Well you can't unscrew it because the damn pipe is so closeto the wall you would never get a screwdriver in there. SO stupid. No access to the junstion box. It will have to be fixed, extened lower or something. They told us the tanks would come to the edge of the window, ok I got over that, but they didn't say that the pipe would extend across one side of the window . The one at the front will also impede us from putting the side gate on the front edge corner of the house too as it comes so far forward from the tank... By-the-by I sensed some about a "charged system". It's nothing overly complicated, rather than dumping into the tank from above - where you have that flexibility - it allows you to connect a number of downpipes underground to connect to the one inflow. Charged means the pipes are always full. The diagram on the second page of this explains it better than what I can... http://www.pic.vic.gov.au/resources/doc ... ing_06.pdf mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: What's this on my tank? 17Jan 07, 2010 5:24 pm It is called the "first flush system" where the first down pour of rain (normally with crap from your roof) will be diverted to that pipe, normally at least 1400mm long and should have a plastic ball inside to seal the top end of pipe when its full,so the rainwater will then be diverted to your rainwater tank. It has a slow release valve on the end cap that you can connect to a hose to divert the dirty water wherever you want. We manufacture rainwater tanks and we do the installation as well, if I was the one to do that, I would secure the inlet pipe close to the wall so the T-piece can then be turned 90 degrees to the right, not obstructing the view out the window, and the first flush should also be secured with a bracket to the inlet pipe so its not just dangling in the air. Re: What's this on my tank? 18Jan 07, 2010 5:50 pm THank you thank thank you....that's wonderful. I am so appreciative. You have basically backed up what the other guys said.
