I will see what the Good Guys are offering after the Xmas/New Year holidays Arfur Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 23Jan 03, 2010 10:28 am If I may correct my earlier post, my current 4yr old Vax is only 6.6kg (10.2kg being the total weight of the carton it came in LOL) so the Dyson at 9kg is considerably heavier and hopefully wont get 'bogged' in the carpet. Quote: We have now moved into our new house and have a Vac system and it is fantastic!! That's nice Vid however I'm only interested in the Dyson DC23 Arfur Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 24Jan 03, 2010 3:15 pm got one at HN yesterday Turbine plus model (with turbine head, mini turbine head and hard floor tool) for $749. Pick it up this week as they were out of stock. Building Monaco32 with Carlisle Homes in Alamanda Estate 20/08/2010 - HANDOVER 24/8!! At the Good Guys today there was mass confusion, not helped by the crowd and being 4 models of the DC23. The one (last in stock) I chose was the 'turbine' with the 'flat out head' as a bonus for $665. I couldn't see the point of the hard floor tool or the mini-turbine tool at the extra cost on your model, that I probably wouldn't use. To get a comparison I vacuumed with my 4yr old Vax 2200 with turbo head, then again with the new Dyson and was surprised at collecting a handful of pet hair and about a half a cup (not including what was stuck in the machine) of very fine dust. So IMHO it does its job very well. Arfur Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 26Jan 04, 2010 9:22 am Thats fair enough. I buy a fair bit from HN.. Haven't had any problems yet! I am pretty sure the vacuum cleaner for all the DC23 models is the same. The only difference is the bits and pieces that come with it. The hard floor tool is good for tiles / floor boards as it had a soft brush like material on the bottom to protect from scratching. I will be using the mini turbine head to clean my car! Also want to get one of the soft dusting brushes to do venetians / shutters... Will get that eventually though... Building Monaco32 with Carlisle Homes in Alamanda Estate 20/08/2010 - HANDOVER 24/8!! We have carpet in the rooms, but only short length.. the rest of the house is tiled. Would be perfect if there was an on/off button on the hose. Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 28Jan 08, 2010 1:17 am Quote: Turbine plus model (with turbine head, mini turbine head and hard floor tool) for $749. Sarahq I looked at the hard floor head and thought it unnecessary because the turbine head will do the same thing once the push-pull thingy stops the spinning 'turbo' brush. Also the supplied 'flat out head' can be used on hard floors and carpet and because of its very low profile can get under beds and low furniture etc. The mini turbo head is available as an extra at around $49 at the Good Guys so adding this to my model at $665 I still come out in front of Hardly Normals. I guess in the end its all a matter of who you trust. Arfur Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 29Jan 08, 2010 7:29 am with my motorhead I got a hard floor tool as well.. but I can't be bothered changing heads.. the motor head has a button on it that you press with your foot to turn the brush on and off... so I just turn it off to use it on hard floors.. Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 30Jan 08, 2010 7:50 am I won't use anything else but the hard floor tool on my engineered timber floors (Boral Silkwood, Australiana finish) for fear of scratching them (yes, you look at them and they scratch...). In my old house we had timber floors (house on stumps) and I'd use anything on them and they wouldn't scratch, so be careful with what head you use and what type of wooden floors you have!! I still love the mini turbine head on the stairs!!! It would be very difficult to use the normal turbine head on them properly. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! I've only got tiles and carpet so the one head does the job fine. Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 32Jan 09, 2010 9:50 am We recently bought the DC23 with turbine head (it's silver and purple). We got ours at the Good Guys for $663. I was amazed at how much it picked up! I am finding it a big awkward to use but I think i just need to get used to it. I really like that the hose and stick thingo is telescopic so it wraps around the barrel - makes storing it so much easier. I don't really like the stick as it only goes to one length and I'm short and find it a bit long, which is probably why I have a bit of trouble moving it around as well. other than that, it's really good. Easy to empty, easy to put together. The turbine head is really good - we had a Kambrook with one but this one works way better. I really like that you can open up the head to clean it as well. Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 33Jan 09, 2010 11:11 am almond the d23 you can set the telescopic arm to 3 different length. Just click it out to how many you want. I put it on the full length but I know you can do it shorter. Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 34Jan 09, 2010 11:20 am This is not a comment on Dyson Vacs - I am sure they are excellent devices - but be aware of the fact that vacuum cleaners are probably the highest volume sale item of any item that retailers have to offer, so retailers love them for the sales they bring. Households turn them over frequently - just browse the above posts to see how often they are being renewed or updated or changed. So where am I going with all this? Well guess what when retailers have a vac that is not selling very well what do they do? Put the price down? No they put the price up and that price rise goes into the salesperson's wallet and because of that she/he 'sells' that unit as hard as he/she can go. And sure enough they get rid of them, and the salesperson does very well, thank you very much, out of it all. Which ultimately means for the customer if he knows there is a very good margin on the unit then go in there to bargain as hard as you can go. cheers Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 35Jan 10, 2010 7:40 pm Gees Barkly that sounds awfully cynical Quote: Households turn them over frequently - just browse the above posts to see how often they are being renewed or updated or changed. Probably because they have bought crap to begin with and like me are wary of buying another mediocre performer we want to buy quality this time around Quote: Well guess what when retailers have a vac that is not selling very well what do they do? Have you ever considered for a moment a company knows its a quality product but its expensive, so they do a deal with the supplier and buy in bulk to bring the price down (yes down) so more sales are made. Who cares if the salesperson gets a kick-back in dealing with an (at times) idiot public? If you resent some salespeople earning an extra quid why not sit in your tent being suspicious of everyone trying to help you, and watch the world pass you by? If you read previous posts, Ive proven my new Dyson DC23 is superior (and I unfortunately have no connection with the company) to my current cleaner because of the extra dirt/pet hair it removed from my carpets immediately after I had used my Vax 2200 There I feel better now LOL Arfur Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 36Jan 11, 2010 11:21 am We are also in the market for a new vacuum cleaner. Went to Gofr3ys to get their advice and was recommended a "Wertheim" - brand I'd never heard of before. Asked him how they fared in comparison to a Dyson and his response was "well Im not allowed to say Dyson are bad..." and then proceeded to tell me how crap they were lol. So I jumped on productreview and lo and behold.. theres a million bad comments about this so called wonder vacuum ! (Knew there had to be a reason they offer a "10 year service plan" - 1 free service every year for 10 years). Sales guy was pushing hard to get us to put a deposit on it.. but I never buy anything until I read the reviews. Thanks for all the great comments above.. productreview seemed to have the same theme with comments - nearly all positive about dyson. so i figure a Dyson cant possibly be as bad as Godr3ys salesman was making out! Ill also be looking at a Henry! Mum had one for years and it was great - never an issue. Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 39Jan 13, 2010 10:41 am OK I have looked in the instructions, online and on the actual machine and in no way can I see that it can be adjusted to different lengths. You have to click it in 3 places and if they aren't clicked in, it collapses. Anyone know how to adjust the length of the wand? Sure... - its plastic (as opposed to metal - i.e the wertheim he was trying to flog had a metal wand) - you are just paying for alot of marketing, theres no real substance in what the marketing is saying - they dont vibrate the carpet.. so they just dont get the dirt out... among other things..was a while back now.. cant remember it all ! But basically trying to persuade us its all marketing hype that shouldnt be believed. Did he think I was born yesterday? silly man ! |
