Ive searched and read up on the Dyson DC23 vacuum cleaner and have found mainly positive comments BUT are there any negative comments or points I should be aware of as I contemplate buying one? Too heavy, i need a back massage every time after using it Not a negative comments on the machine, more on myself.... Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 3Dec 30, 2009 9:39 am The only issue with the design is: 1. Weight (quite heavy) 2. No on/off switch on the handle of the hose 3. Short stiff hose. So it tends to drag the unit about when trying to get round beds and tables 4. The dust collected by the unit is awsome, but this is also its problem when opening the canister. The micro particles tend to stick to itself and your arms when emptying. Other than that, fantastic Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 4Dec 30, 2009 12:36 pm Thanks for your responses. Ive had new carpets laid and with 2 dogs inside I'm getting a tad neurotic about the dust and pet hair being ingrained in the carpet. I thought one negative comment might be the price, but I guess seeing though you dont have to buy bags or any filters, they have added this into the price LOL Arfur Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 5Dec 30, 2009 2:49 pm I bought a DC19 with a TURBO HEAD and it's fantastic. This is my second Dyson. I will have a whole top floor of carpet and some rooms d/stairs as well. We have a dog and 2 kids and 1 adult with allergies. THere is a thread re Dyson's on H1 I will try to find it for you. I PERSONALLY wouldn't buy anything else. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 6Dec 30, 2009 2:52 pm I think I remember Ash, our resident H1 carpet expert saying that the "The best to get is the Turbo-cat. I think Aussie-vac sell them." So you could also consider them. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 7Dec 30, 2009 3:41 pm I have quite an old dyson. DC07 I think it is. Brilliant. The best thing I ever bought. It's 10 years old and going strong, I've had it serviced once and replaced the power head and bought extra heads for other things (ie car heads, pet hair head) but I'm waiting for it to die so I can get a new one. Mine is the old single cyclone. It still does a fantastic job. Consider getting an older model, much cheaper but still so much better than many vac's on the market. The heads I have will all fit the newer models too as they came with extra bits to fit all models. I prefer the barrel style over upright, it slides easily across the several floor surfaces we have had. It does a brilliant job vacuuming my beds, which I now do regularly because of what I see coming out. I take it outside and wear a face mask when I empty the barrel though. That's the only downfall but it's the same issue with all bagless vac's. Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 8Dec 30, 2009 4:55 pm Yes I had a DC3!!! (or was it 4?), it was an upright and I only just got rid of it. It had to be a good 15 yrs old? I went straight out and bought another one, this time a barrell. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 9Dec 30, 2009 5:44 pm I have a DC08, have had it for about 6 years, haven't had a moments problem with it and was quite embarassed the first time I used it due to the amount of dust (very fine white powder, legacy of living on an unsealed road) it pulled out of my carpets. It sh*ts all over my brand spanking new ducted vacuum system! Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 10Dec 30, 2009 6:04 pm I think it sucks up o.o5 microns which is smaller than a particle of smoke. Iread that somewhere, one of those useless bit sof info you gather through life and never forget for some insane reason. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 11Dec 30, 2009 6:15 pm I have the dc23 motorhead.. yeah it is heavy but don't see that as a problem unless you have two storeys as it is quite light to drag around on its wheel. The hose is quite long and the cord is also quite long. I got it for $900 at Hardly Normal's in Greensy. Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 12Dec 30, 2009 7:21 pm My (requested) Christmas present was a Dyson vacuum. I got the DC23 with turbine head, mini turbine head and hard floor cleaner in a special pack that Dyson do for Hardly Normals. It was in their catalogue just before Christmas - $749 for the lot and it came with a toy upright Dyson. Love it! Amazing how much dust it picked up out of my six month old carpets that the old Hoover didn't get. It also folds itself into a small package - the hose wraps around the vacuum body, the wand retracts to a third its size and clips onto the body, and the turbine head clips onto the front of the body. Very neat. Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 13Dec 31, 2009 9:44 am Thanks all for your responses. Weight? Just dug out the paperwork for my battered Vax 2200 and its weight is 10.2Kg against Dyson's 9 Kg so the weight shouldn't be a problem. Yes Arkanah it was Hardly Normals junk mail flier that got me thinking. Do you really need the mini turbine head? The Good Guys have one for $693 (less for cash) with a bonus flat floor tool? I think this could be the same as the one in HN's catalogue for $699 - no bonus offers. Arfur Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 14Dec 31, 2009 9:58 am You'll get the flat floor tool ( I got it for my porcelain tiles), if you haggle a little at HN I did. I have to say the turbine head is very good in my opinion. www.themaxbuild.blogspot.com forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=20717&start=300 www.leahspaperpassion.blogspot.com Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 15Dec 31, 2009 3:03 pm I love my Dyson to bits. The only bad thing I can fault is must watch the red long pointer that effectively pushed the bottom of the barrel when emptying it. There has been a time when it closed wrong which almost caused it to break and effectively meant the barrel couldn't be opened. This happened within 12mths. Overall, highly recommend. You won't be disappointed. You will want to vacuum daily We have the DC23. Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 16Dec 31, 2009 3:17 pm I have a dyson which i love, dont know the model but is the pretty aqua one. Anyway it has been perfect and i love seeing how much dirt and dust can be found on a clean looking floor as it gets sucked up and wizzed around. I got this a birthday pressie a few years back as i have wanted one for years. We have wooden floor boards but if we had carpet, i would buy a model with a vibrating head. Has anyone had one of those kirby vac demos? Way too expensive and the sales staff very pushy but the vibrating head really sucked up the dirt. I was very impressed but we knew we would be ripping out all the carpet in the bedrooms soon. Hubby and i saw a similar model that was at godfreys, wertherm or similar that also had the vibrating head to lift the deep down dirt. Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 17Dec 31, 2009 3:58 pm if you can afford it go the motorhead.. kills the turbine head.. as turbine head is only suction powered whereas the motor head is motorised and rips the crap out of your carpet in no time. Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 18Dec 31, 2009 4:19 pm Hi guys, We purchased the DC23 Motorhead http://www.dyson.com.au/store/product.a ... TORHEAD-AU Now first off, I'm male and in my mid 20's so strangely enough vacuum cleaners aren't something I normally get excited about. That said I love my dyson and am yet to see anything better and more to the point actually makes cleaning not so much of a horrendous ordeal. Side by side with my parents Nilfisk which in itself is a $400 bagged cleaner on their old carpet which had seen 25 odd years of wear and impregnated grit/dirt/other unpleasentness. The patch we did with the dyson the day I purchased it was noticably cleaner, that said it was also signifcantly harsher on the carpet with the motorhead on. After speaking with a few people including the sales person, a couple of friends with older dysons and a carpet sales person. The consensus seemed to be to use the motorhead about 1 out of 4 cleans (assuming of course that your cleaning once a week or so). As otherwise it would probably cause signifcant wear to the carpet to use it every time, moreso if your carpet is at the lower end of the quality scale. That said it is horrendously expensive to buy that edition as its the top inclusion model at the moment iirc. We got ours from 'The good guys' during one of the sales as well as we had a voucher to use which made a significant dint in the price. The only other benefit of that edition is that it comes with a metal telescopic wand which felt considerably more solid than the plastic one that comes with the base model. So now i just need the land to title, so the house can be built so i can get on with some vacuuming Our Build - Places Fairhaven 23+ - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28045 Our Landscaping - Belial's Backyard - https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=45375 Re: Dyson DC23 Vacuum cleaner? 19Dec 31, 2009 4:26 pm I have recently bought the DC23 and love it to bits! It came with the free asthma pack (mini turbine head, matress head, soft brush (which is excellent for doing timber venetians/shutters) and a flexible crevice tool.). I use mine almost everyday, and am still amazed at the amount of crap it gets out of a brand new carpet in a house with a 'no shoes' policy. The mini turbine head is brilliant for use on the stairs, and I have strategic power points throughout the house so I don't have to cart it around the place. Although I don't find the weight a problem at all. My only issue I have with it is the barrel emptying. I am an asthmatic and suffer from hay fever, and this is the worst thing! But at least I don't have to fork out more money for bags. My new carpet is still shedding slightly, and most of the vacced up stuff is brown fluff! I have to make sure I empty the barrel very often, as the fluff tends to get stuck and I have to pull it out if it gets overloaded, instead of falling out as it should! I also make sure I pull apart the turbine head and clean out all the wrapped around hair and grime from inside the rotary brush parts several times per vac session. My Mum has one (which I used to borrow all the time!), and I think it's a DC08 (it's purple and silver). The bearings went on the turbine head after 2 years and used to make a hideous noise even after thorough cleaning of parts, but it was within warranty, so it was replaced free.
