Browse Forums General Discussion Re: Curing concrete 2Dec 29, 2009 5:42 pm General purpose concretes reach about 50% of their "design strength" in about 3 days, and about 70% to 80% of their design strength in about 7 days. Noting that the design strength is to take the design loads on the slab i.e. winds in excess of 100 km/h, fully live load, etc, etc. Concrete reaches it's design strength after 28 days...and keeps going forever more. So anywhere beyond about 3 days would be OK... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Curing concrete 3Dec 29, 2009 6:28 pm Curing concrete as the title asks happens as tdl suggests... Though 'curing concrete' or more aptly reducing the cure is done to reduce cracking. Hessian covered with plastic and water flooding the hessian is the go. ...and should be done for 7 days Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Curing concrete 4Dec 30, 2009 7:35 am My concretor will be putting in driveway, perimeters, etc in late Jan. Adelaide's weather in late Jan .... probably high 30's (at least). Other than getting 100+ sqm of hessian and plastic (and throwing it out after), is there any other solution? (thinking aloud, wonder if my concretor has hessian and plastic??) Thanks. (thinking aloud, wonder if my concretor has hessian and plastic??) Curing is the responsibility of the concretor...not you...you don't need to worry about hessian and plastic...although on a drive he may ask you to water it...but the curing is part of the job as is forming, placement of reo, and pouring. Ask the concrete how he will cure...and if he gives you a blank look...move on. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Curing concrete 6Dec 30, 2009 9:10 am The engineer will have a note on your plans for curing. ... as tdl says it is the responsibility on the concretor (grano). Where you are coming from is where you are going to... To my understanding early saw cuts are to control shrinkage cracks, so doing them now would be pointless. Control joints may reduce ugly cracking during periods of soil… 3 9863 Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10949 |
