Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 27, 2009 5:32 pm I have 2 pieces of rectangular laminate wood (both plates have the same thickness at about 15mm) and I want to put them together to make a bigger rectangle. I went to bunnings and the guy there suggested a biscuit joiner. Though I can't justify the cost because I won't be using it often enough. so I thought of putting 3 pieces of wood to act as bract and gluing them together. I will be peeling of the laminate area where the piece of wood would make contact. I would be using a clamp to secure the glued pieces while it dries. any thoughts to this idea? thank you very much for the help something like this: ---------------------- | | | 1st plate | | | | | ---|----|-----|------ (the vertical lines in this row and the row below are the wood braces I'm talking about) ---|----|-----|------- | | | 2nd plate | | | | | | | ---------------------- Re: so i want to connect 2 laminate plates together... 3Dec 29, 2009 10:50 am Alternatively buy a larger piece of laminated board, which will also stop water ingress on the proposed centre join Arfur Re: so i want to connect 2 laminate plates together... 4Jan 05, 2010 8:23 pm Depends what you are trying to achieve, you can manually install some dowel joints just be pretty precise with your holes to ensure the top side joints flush (if this is a requirement) you can buy laminate clamps that you simply drill to holes 20mm ish partially into the underside and they clamp the two sheets together, this is used to commonly join kitchen bench tops, I am not sure you will find the to suit 15mm board though but worth a look. a little tip with gluing is to use PVA on the bottom half and Silicon on the top half to good a good water proof seal I would be wary.
