Oh, and if your going to say fly screens, I’ve already thought of that, but if you don’t have fly screens, what are some of the things you people do to keep your home pest free? We use cafe blinds and a bug zapper - not a cheap method, but it gives you more controlled outdoors space. The blinds are down almost 24/7 so they have to find another way round. Re: Keeping bugs out 3Dec 22, 2009 1:15 pm I can't say they're a problem... having the evap cooling running and/or the ceiling fan in the al fresco room probably helps, but we don't ever end up with a house full of flies and mozzies. A bug zapper is another option, but I prefer to burn citronella candles or sandalwood sticks to repel bitey insects in the evening. You burn them outdoors, not in. Re: Keeping bugs out 4Dec 22, 2009 1:28 pm We recently found a fantastic solution to the hordes of flies that buzz around the sliding door in summer (because it's cooler there, under the porch). We bought one of those fly traps from Bunnings that have a yellow dome lid and are about $9. You shake in a sachet of fly attracting stuff, add water and poof- it's been a week now, it's about 1/4 full with dead flies and we have no flies hanging around the door The only bad thing is that the cylinder is clear and the build up of flies is starting to look really gross. dad and I have discussed covering the cylinder with contact/paper but aren't sure if it will work as well. When this one's full and we get the next one, we're trying it out with the cylinder covered. Thanks, most I had thought of, but wanted to know what works best for people. We've noticed the large gap between the panels of our bifold doors and had been assuming that these would have a strip of rubber placed in them to stop the air and bugs getting in. Is this not the case? It will make a bit of a mockery of the insulation on the other doors if it isn't the case. The painters originally took it all out and didn't put it back but we had the glass replaced in the doors and the installer put all the rubbers back in. It really makes a big difference.
